| yea, the whole album is dedicated to those people (including me) who feel like nobody understands them..everyone condemns them for being different, not following the "in-crowd", and for having an opinion..like Otep Shamaya said, "Everyone's like a conformist, in which people all follow a blind shepard"...this album is awesome, and this song kicks major ass! Shinedown rules & the people who are being condemned for needless reasons rock too! Love you guys! | |

| things are crap but he he goes on anyway. i think it's a reflection period rather than depression and even though things aren't going as he wishes, he continues to "burn bright" i don't see it as depressing. reflections more like it. | |

| To me.... The more the light shines through me I pretend to close my eyes The more the dark consumes me I pretend I'm burning, burning bright This to me is about truth...as in "The more truth I experience, the more I turn away from it, and the more lies I tell, the more I try to justify it with myself." This brings me to the first verse, which basically is about hidint the truth....no need for conversation (because truth might come out)....some questions are better left without a reason (i dont want to explain the truth)...and so on... And finally, my favorite part: There's nothing ever wrong but nothing's ever right Such a cruel contradiction This is about being a perfectionist: There's nothing wrong, but i'm not happy because thing's aren't exactly as i'd like them to be....I define perfectionism as trying to find something wrong with everything (as opposed to trying to find things to be happy about) | |

| I think this is about feeling numb, but hopeless -- that feeling you get where everything's gray area, nothing matters, and you're just sick of living. Or maybe it's just me who feels that way =/. And then there's always the bit about pretending you're alright, even though you aren't... Same old mask of happiness that no one ever bothers to look through... | |

| i think most of you fags have no idea what you're talking about. anyways- i think this is a song about dealing with a load of shit every day by yourself - and theres no point in even trying to explain it to anyone(i feel like there is no need for conversation). he'd rather just like talk about himself in general instead of his problems because its just too hard to express it and ppl would prob think he was just doing it for attention. moral of the story: he's his own best friend dealing with his own issues and his friends are assholes. lol | |

| To me, this song is about finding yourself and he's having real problems with it. There is definitely a hint of depression in the line "Nothing's ever wrong, but nothings ever right". He either doesn't know who he's meant to be or does know who he is and just doesn't like it. I think it may be he realizes who he is but doesn't want to accept it. I love the "I pretend to close my eyes" part because I think it's saying that he pretends that he doesn't see the truth-- pretends he's someone else. The "constant shame of my exsistence"-- Wow that is a brutal line... but I think i understand it... it's like he doesn't feel worthy of being alive even, maybe because he's not true to himself. Maybe he feels like he is supposed to be sad because it's kind of like paying for being alive. | |

| Ahaha Desaparecida I feel like that was aimed at me ^_^. Noooo, I'm not goth. Not enough fashion sense to have any type o' label =P. Right, so to translate it again (my many moods are disagreeing again o.O)... Oooh, nevermind, too angsty. That was sad. Maybe sometime when I'm not so pathetic. | |

| lol coconut33 I agree... sometimes all the shit you go through isn't worth explaining to others why you act the way you do because life has changed you. I also think its a reflection as someone else said...also, "the more the dark consumes me, I pretend I'm burning bright" - the shit you go through affects you on a daily basis but some of us choose to ignore it and pretend everything is fine | |

| I believe it means not being able to choose between life and death. There's advantages to both, like Hamlet's "To Be or Not to Be." He feels the "light" of life, and pretends it doesn't matter to him that he's alive, but then death comes to him in the "dark" and tries to take him, and he pretends he's alive when he's really not living. | |

| For some strange odd reason, i think you're all wrong. To me this song is about a break-up and he still has feelings, but the other person doesn't. "i feel there is no need for conversation, some questions are better left w/o reason" means that he doesnt even want to talk to the other person and he has so many questions but he knows he's better off not knowing the answer. and he would rather let ppl kno what kind of person he is than let ppl know how bad he is hurting in this situation over the other person. PLUS he pretends he is burning bright meaning he pretends he has moved on and is ok. but mostly the part where it says "There's nothing ever wrong but nothing's ever right Such a cruel contradiction I know I cross the lines its not easy to define" meaning there was nothing particularly wrong with their relationship except for that it just wasn't right and he knows he made mistakes but he didnt think it would result in this. BUT I COULD BE TOTALLY WRONG....thats the thing with music, diff ppl interpret it diff ways. | |
