E C#m A
it is so that my transgressions have born a withered fruit,
B
the sun has scorched the rising plants;
E C#m
alas they have no root, the bleached bones of animals bound by leather
A
strips,
B E
dance through the air with laughter as I wield this wicked whip,

C#m A
as you did warn me carpenter, this world has weakened my heart,

B E
so easily I disparage, self-seeking the work of my art,

C#m A
and there you have come to me at the moment I bathe in my sorrow,

B E
so in love with myself, sought after avoiding tomorrow,
C#m A
where do you find the love to offer he who betrays you?

B E
and offer to wash my feet as I offer to disobey you,

C#m A
your beauty does bereave me, and how my words do fail,
B E
so faithfully and dutifully I award you with betrayal,

C#m A
the weak and the down trodden fall on broken legs,
B E
as I walk past a smile I cast, fervor in my stead,
A C#m
but my bones like plastic, do buckle backward now,

B E
I lay in this field by Judas' bowels and anticipate the plow,
A C#m
I can not be forgiven; my wages will be paid,

B E
for those more lovely and admirable is least among the saved,
A
and where would I fit Jesus?
C#m
what place is left for me?
B E
the price of atonement is more than I've found to offer up as my plea,

E C#m A B
Jesus my heart is all I have to give to you, so weak and so unworthy,

E C#m A
this simply will not do, no alabaster jar, no diamond in the rough,

B E
for your body that was broken, how can this be enough?

C#m A
by me you were abandoned, by me you were betrayed,

B E
yet in your arms and in your heart forever I have stayed

E C#m A
Your glory illuminates my life, and no darkness will descend,

B E
for you have loved me forever, and your love will never end

Every time i listen to this song it has an effect on me. Its amazing. "where do you find the love to offer he who betrays you? and offer to wash my feet as i offer to disobey you, your beauty does bereave me, and how my words do fail, so faithfully and dutifully i award you with betrayal" -Ever wonder how someone so worthy as Him can love someone that betrays Him over and over again by sinning. "Jesus my heart is all i have to give to you, so weak and so unworthy, this simply will not do, no alabaster jar, no diamond in the rough, for your body that was broken, how can this be enough?" -my favorite line of the song. All we have to give to the Lord is our dark dark body that is not worthy at all but is somehow still accepted by him.

you're definitely right, g.zus. mtv culture has indoctrinated what is cool and what is popular. just because a band gets on mtv doesnt mean they are talented. they just look like they are. showbread could kill the hives over and over, and yes they are passionate about God. I admire their faith a lot. It's what influences me to be the antithesis in the world. and not just another blank face in the crowd. simply put, Christians are suppose to set the standards in the world. Just look at Jesus. He made all of society and culture bend around him. He influenced like no other because people are still preaching his life today. Showbread is an example of setting the standards. They are like no other.

It's so poetic yet so deep and meaningful. It all flows together so perfectly, but still, with great meaning and passion. "so faithfully and dutifully I award You with betrayal." so convicting and so true.

I love to worship to this song. It is my favorite showbread song. I actually took my screenname here from it (if you can't tell). Matthias was the one chosen to replace Judas as an apostle after Judas committed suicide in the field. I'd love to go over all of the symbolism in this song, but I don't think I can. I'll share a few of my favorites though. " i lay in this field by Judas' bowels and anticipate the plow" Judas killed himself in the field of blood and his body stayed there. This line says "I've betrayed Christ, I am now awaiting judgement (the plow) like Judas. "sun has scorched the rising plants alas they have no root" This symbolism, as long as you know the parable. This is the parable of the seeds ( Matthew 13:3-8). "for those more lovely and admirable is least among the saved" This one isn't so much symbolism but the words of Christ. It will be harder for a rich man to enter the kingdomof heaven matthew 19:24 and matthew 19:30. "Jesus my heart is all i have to give to you, so weak and so unworthy, this simply will not do, no alabaster jar, no diamond in the rough, for your body that was broken, how can this be enough?" This one is pretty straightforward. I'm nothing special, yet you died for me. How exactly is something as poor and weak as my heart good enough reason for your death?

" the bleached bones of animals bound by leather strips, dance through the air with laughter as i wield this wicked whip" i took me a while to figure out what these lines were talking about. Finally i realized that this is decribing the cat of nine tails. In biblical times, the cat of nine tails was a whip with several leather strips were bound together. At the end of each strip was a piece of glass, metal or bone; this way, i didn't just hurt, it scratched and pulled the skin off your back, leaving oragns exposed. It was one of the worst forms of torture imaginable. They used it on Jesus, before he was crucified. This song blows me away because it shows the anguish that we feel, or should feel, as Christians. Knowing that our sins killed the perfect Savior, we should be in the agony protrayed in this song. But it's awsome that God loves us anyway, and through Him we can be forgiven, and we don't have to go to hell. Showbread rocks.

I can not believe how amazing this band is. This song blew me away when I first heard it, and I can't stop listening to it. This song talks about how we Take Jesus and his death for granted. The end is the best when he finally realizes how much he needs and loves God. This band are total God chasers, and they helped me with my own selfesh desisires, I can't wait for another amazing album. Keep screaming for Christ Showbread!!!

I absolutely love that this band has such a strong Christian theme and faith as a whole, but at the same time doesn't try to shove anything down your throat. Thier beliefs seem to make them so much more passionate and real in thier music.

This is deffinetly one of the best songs ever. "where do you find the love to offer he who betrays you? and offer to wash my feet as i offer to disobey you, your beauty does bereave me, and how my words do fail, so faithfully and dutifully i award you with betrayal" that right there makes me cry. I mean...i know im not the best christian and i know i dissapoint god at times...and this song just makes me feel so bad about that...but then again it feel relieved because it reminds me that god still loves me, even though i betray him. Jesus my heart is all i have to give to you, so weak and so unworthy, this simply will not do, no alabaster jar, no diamond in the rough, for your body that was broken, how can this be enough? by me you were abandoned, by me you were betrayed, yet in your arms and in your heart forever i have stayed Your glory illuminates my life, and no darkness will descend, for you have loved me forever, and your love will never end" and that right there just gives me chills.....i absolutley LOVE this song

Wow.. I'm a strong athiest and despite my beliefs on religion, I think this has to be one of the most incredible songs ever written.. I could go on and on about how great it is, but if you're reading this post I'm sure you already realize it. I cannot comprehend how a band like Showbread is relatively unpopular despite how talented they are, while *insert MTV band name here* gets all the fame for being typical... It just floors me these guys don't get the credit they truly deserve, they are amazing artists and I'm just thankful I have been able to experience them in my home and as well at live performances.

this is one of those songs that just gives you complete chills. best showbread song, hands down. one of the best, or at least the most emotional, songs i've ever heard. josh dies has an incredible way of conveying true heart through his lyrics. songs never make me cry, but this one can make you a little teary-eyed. it's straightforward, yet it feels like you're hearing something that's completely fresh, never been sung before. first, second time i heard it, i looked at my arm and i had goosebumps. this song DOES something to you. rock on showbread. you are underappreciated and DEFINITELY underrated. that will change soon. the next release will kick face even more than this one.
