I think he is saying he lives in a place were people mean well but are really dead inside themselves and he wants out.

Anyone can interpret it differently (mutters UnknownUser under breath in a threatening tone)...I think it's about a highschool 'nobody' and the struggle with fitting in. The person is obviously angry at those who single him out...he is on the borderline of anger and violence by the threat stated in: Here's your warning I'll give you click click boom He's also telling himself that he needs to stand up for himself instead of taking all the blows. Need a change Not to imitate But to irritate All the ones who hate That's how I see it...and I can relate to it completely, so I'll leave it at that.

i agree with you b_man. but i also think the people where he is living are more superficial than well-meaning.

lol i bet it was cute! the video takes places at night and its in this builting thats missing a side and the band member are all dressed up but they seem bored and sad. they should all these odd things like two girls on a bed and an old man standing there watching and a kid killing a bug. i really like it for some reason..maybe its just cuz daniel looks really good in it..but he looks good in all of em so it must be something more...

I think its about how hes locked up in a place of old dead customs ("I live in a cemetery") and wants to break out and rebel ("I need a change not to imitate but to irritate") its such a good song

I think with the lyric "I need a change. Not to imitate. But to irritate" could be to do with the fact that when Silverchair started out, some people said they were nothing but Pearl Jam or Nirvana rip-offs, hence the 'immitation'. Then when they change their style, people will realise that they aren't rip-offs and therefore be 'irritated' by the fact that they were wrong.

This is definately about following the status quo for what people think is cool. The cemetery is a place with no individual thought, the irritation is what people see as different and they dont like that.

No, I've not seen it...come to think of it I've never seen a Sliverchair video...what happens in it? I have seen them live 3 years ago. Daniel is fit, but he threw a really wierd schiz. What happened is they had played in Nottingham the night before and this gig was in Manchester. He started making all the jokes about how "all you people in Nottingham eat 'Nothing but ham'. Then everyone started shouting, "You're in Manchester!" then he shouted "I KNOW WHERE THE FUCK I AM!" and everyone shut up because they were so shocked by his reaction.

This is my favorite Silverchair song. And I don't think they're Nirvana ripoffs, although I do think that they were possibly slightly inspired by Nirvana, as the sounds sometimes do sound alike. And the way Daniel sings. :o Plus, this song reminds me of Something IN the Way. But I think it's just the cello in it. Not sure what it means though...nice song to listen to however.
