Title : Spawn Again
Artist : Silverchair
Album : Neon Ballroom
Transcribed by : Tim Murphy (timm@flashmail.com)
================================================================================

Legend
------

h = hammer-on
p = pull-off
b = bend
r = bend release
/ = slide up/down
= natural harmonic
[5] = artifical harmonic
~ = vibrato
tr = trill

* = replace these notes with rests after the first time played through (listen to the
album if you don't get it)

Tuning
----------
Eb/Dropped D (see tab notation below)

And you better turn the distortion all the way up for this one.
Just about all the chord forms here have slight palm muting, so experiment with what
sounds best.

The first riff:

Eb|-------------------------------------
Bb|-------------------------------------
Gb|------------------------------------- play 3x
Db|-------------------------------------
Ab|---6-5--5b6r5----5b6r5--5b6r5--0-6p0-
Db|-0-----------0-0-------0-------0-6p0-
*

then play this riff as the band starts up

Eb|-------------------------------------
Bb|-------------------------------------
Gb|-------------------------------------
Db|-------------------------------------
Ab|---6-5-5b6r5-0-0-4p0-0-5p0-0-6p0-----
Db|-------------0-0-4p0-0-5p0-0-6p0-----

Here's the main riff of the song.

Eb|----------------------------------
Bb|----------------------------------
Gb|----------------------------------
Db|-----7-7--------------------------
Ab|-----5-5-0-0-4p0-0-5p0-0-6p0------
Db|---0-----0-0-4p0-0-5p0-0-6p0------

Before the first verse, repeat this A octave over the main riff with guitar 2 (clean for
now):

Eb|------
Bb|------
Gb|-14~--
Db|-xx---
Ab|-12~--
Db|------

Let the bass play for awhile, then break in for 2 main riffs, pause again, play riff again...

The bass starts a new pattern here. On measures 3 and 4, Guitar 1 plays this:

Eb|--------------------------------------------------
Bb|--------------------------------------------------
Gb|-/18-18-18-18-18-18-18-17-17-17-17-17-18-18-18-18-
Db|-/xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-
Ab|-/16-16-16-16-16-16-16-15-15-15-15-15-16-16-16-16-
Db|--------------------------------------------------

The next riff goes is just two chords:

Eb|----------------------
Bb|----------------------
Gb|----------------------
Db|----------------------
Ab|-0-11-11-0-11-11-0-11-
Db|-0-11-11-0-11-11-0-11-
*

This section ends like this:

Eb|-----------------------
Bb|-----------------------
Gb|-----------------------
Db|-----------------------
Ab|-11-11-0-11-11-0-11-12-
Db|-11-11-0-11-11-0-11-12-

After a short rest this starts up:

Eb|------------------
Bb|------------------
Gb|------------------
Db|------------------
Ab|------------------
Db|-3-0-00-4h6-0-1-0-

For the 3rd and 4th time, Guitar 2 (now distorted) octaves it:

Eb|------------------
Bb|------------------
Gb|------------------
Db|-3-0-00-4h6-0-1-0-
Ab|------------------
Db|------------------

THen Guitar 1 plays this similar figure for awhile:

Eb|------------------
Bb|------------------
Gb|------------------
Db|------------------
Ab|-3-0-XX-4h6-0-1-0-
Db|-3-0-XX-4h6-0-1-0-

Guitar 2 then tremelo picks these octaves over the above riff:

Eb|----------------------
Bb|-15----16--13----16---
Gb|-xx----xx--xx----xx---
Db|-12----13--10----13---
Ab|----------------------
Db|----------------------

At the end of that section tremelo pick these octaves:

Eb|----------------------
Bb|-15----18--20----16---
Gb|-xx----xx--xx----xx---
Db|-12----15--17----13---
Ab|----------------------
Db|----------------------

Then back to the main riff and you're finished!

There's lots of weird keyboard overdubs in this song, so it's not exact, but I'm sure
it'll sound great as it is.

I think you should face reality, guys up there. it's a fact and nothing you can run away from... I didn't like this song at first, but since I've started to appreciate even rough guitar sounds, now I love it. It's just a great feeling when it makes your inside.. eh, cramp, you know what I mean. But who's the bad guy? I don't really get that line. For iron require... minced meat? I think I somewhere heard something about these iron mines in africa had something to do with it?

i really don't like this song. it is so depressing, and i don't like people telling me not to eat meat because poor animals have to be killed for it. i eat meat a lot, and i love silverchair so much, but this is one song i don't like

yeah, this is a super awesome song...but isn't this version the one where he says "who's the bad guy" over and over for an entire verse? well, that's what my copy is like...i completely agree with desktop_breaking in that is is murder. i once filmed a little clip of calves in the little veal pens to keep them from developing muscle, it's really sad.

"isn't this version the one where he says "who's the bad guy" over and over for an entire verse?" Yeah, this is the version from the Spawn soundtrack that they did with Vitro. The version on Neon Ballroom is actually called "Spawn Again".

I respect everyone's opinion on here, but mine differ's just a little. Yes, there are the vegan hints in the song but it is so much more than that. It is a critique of society in general. 'Discard the old and in with the fashion' this line to me says how people cant keep their attention on one thing for to long. The song also critiques how people are such stereotypical pigs. BTW Silverchair rock!

I think this song is not completely about his vegan mode, it is more or less telling all people that they should eat whatever they kill, but that they don't have to kill ifd they don't wnat to. Evolve with the new transistion meaning, out with the old in with the new, alot of people think that Vegatarians are "weird" but they just don't like seeing this happen.
