Hasn't been a comment for over a year, but oh well. Silverchair's split made me feel ill... This is partially about an eating disorder, but also about depression... Wow...

you know that feeling you get when you wake up from a really good dream? the world was perfect in your sleep, and then you wake up, realise reailty, and scream "FUCK!"? "dreams are bad when all they do is leave the truth behind". i think that lyric sums up that frustrating, depressing feeling really well. as for the song as a whole, i like the eating disorder idea. and yes, "Kez", people write more than one song about things sometimes. in fact some bands make a living out of it. great song. if this was written during freak show i cannot believe it was hidden away and not put on the album. i think it was used on the 'godzilla' soundtrack?

He wrote this during Freakshow days. It's obviously about not wanting to face reality, but let the cycle start again. When reality is too hard to face, pain is an escape.

@Kez: what kind of argumentation is that? Just because Ana`s song is obviously about anorexia, that doesnt mean this one isn`t. "another body down" "a portrait of my skeletal gain" "selfish and hungry" "feed me the pain" "escape reality with new pain" All sounds very much like an eating disorder, while "all i can think of are ways to die alone" "negativity`s a state of mind" etc. describe the depression wich usually comes with an ed.

This is my favourite Silverchair song, i love the way that the music is, it's very calm then hard, that brings out alot of emotion in itself and i love the strings and I love the lyrics

I kinda doubt this song's about anorexia. It wasn't from the neon ballroom era. Actually, it was written for Freak Show, but didn't make the final cut. So it was put on the godzilla soundtrack in 1998. Maybe the lyrics were altered for the soundtrack, but I'm pretty sure this song's about his depression.

i think its about how he felt about himself when he would look in a mirror & see his own bones "A portrait of my skeletal gain"

i think its about him suffering and not knwoing where to put his emotions. he talks of suicide but is too afraid to do it or is holding onto something so "the cycle starts again"
