i agree. i love all of silverchairs albums really, theyre all different and they all mean something and i think its an amazing journey they've made x] i love this song it's so inspirational, to me it's about being through bad things in the past, but knowing that you're at a good stage in your life, and whatever happens happens, you'll take it as it comes and you won't look back, you're "walking in a straight line". gosh i love silverchair.

I disagree with the people implying that Silverchair have become commercial. This song may not be as raw as some of their earlier stuff, but there are two things to consider when claiming they've gone commercial. 1. During the Frogstomp & Freak Show days, all three band members wrote the songs whereas from that point onwards, Daniel became the sole songwriter. 2. Daniel is just damn good at writing slightly more 'poppy' songs than he is at writing heavier songs. Look at Diorama. Look at The Dissociatives. Look at the song he wrote for Natalie, 'Satisfied'. It's just what he's good at. Just because it sounds less raw, less heavy, doesn't mean it's not from the heart.

theres this thing that happens between the ages of FOURTEEN and TWENTY-SEVEN...its called "Growing Up". Im not sure some of you have heard of it, banking on the fact that some of you seem to be stuck in 1995. Silverchair has grown musically. Straight Lines may be a tad "radio friendly"...but you may want to open your ears up because MOST of their songs are catchy! You cannot expect someone to feel/write/create the same that they did TWELVE YEARS AGO when they hadn't even begun to experience life yet. There is a reason why they don't play songs from Frogstomp live anymore. Its not because they are bad, but they don't fit with what they feel is their sound and feeling they are hoping to get across. No one says you have to like it, but just because you dont, you shouldnt accuse them of being "commercial" They are amazing song writers, musicians and performers and have grown more than I've ever seen any other band even try to. This music is from their hearts, like patrick3972 said, and if you can't see that, I feel bad for you because you are missing out.

Ok fair enough the definitions of comercialism and growin up are different, and we can only classify chair by the second, and i spose it is also fair enough that they have grown up and have a more "poppy" feel, but i still cant help but yearn for their grunge. they were just so kool! they had a sound so difinitive and individual and to know that they (probably) wont ever play it live again is more than a heart breaker. i respect Daniels song writing ability, he is brilliant at it, but i still would like, just once, that they at least do a tour of music from their hayday. (in my opinion) The pop sound doesnt really do anything for me, and this song may well be about daniels struggle, but it seems that we grunge fans may have to accept that chair are no longer our band, they arent comercial, but they are not in the grunge scene anymore. if you are a dedicated silverchair fan and you can stomach the new feel then i respect you effort and dedication. But for me, ill stick to frogstomp and freakshow and reminisce of the anthems they wrote when they were young. hey, we all grow up, im just taking my time.

Its catchy and good butt.. Wheres the anger? That raw emotion they used to flood the songs with. silverchair has become commercial. It’s not just about the music anymore. I know their growing as people and musicians and want to explore other genres.. and maybe aren’t necessarily ‘in too’ grunge anymore... and it kills me to say it... Butt mAAAANN... I can’t help but feel disappointed. Anyway, I find it hard to analyse these new songs. Even with diorama... I wasn’t compelled to sit down. and REALLY listen, pay attention and analyse the lyrics. All the songs are about "loving life" now. Which is fair enough because things are finally going good for Daniel. but you can do “happy” in different ways. Hhmm.. Im just hoping young modern has some songs for us.. old chair fans.
