| The song is about he would rather be the hunter then the hunted.....like he would rather be the one doing the harm then being harmed. | |

| also, on the simon and garfunkel greatest hits cd (which is live), instead of "A man grows older every day It gives the world Its saddest sound, Its saddest sound. " the lyrics are "a man gets tied up to the ground he gives the world Its saddest sound, Its saddest sound." | |

| Tyler250 said it best off the bat. It's the desire to be free rather than be pinned down, not growing. "I'd rather sail away, Like a swan that's here and gone..." says it all. Anyone know why he titled it "El Condor Pasa" rather than simply If I Could? | |

| the line i'd rather be a hammer than a nail is a metiphor for human beings the hammer represents the authotity such as the goverment the president etc... the nails represent us the people and the authority decides what we do what laws we have to obey etc... just as the hammer decides where the nails go and drives them at its will and the nails have no say or choice in this | |

| He is trying to be the bigger of the two things. Either bigger, more free, more powerful. Great song. | |

| i think it's because a hammer can be moved around and stuff but a nail just gets pounded into something and left there... i wondered about that lyric too and thats what i came up with | |

| I think that this song is an attempt to portray the human desire for a stronger love. He wants to be more liberated, and seeks to be the strongest he can possibly be. | |

| I want to always be learning and growing. I want to hold onto the idea of myth, change, and creativity...that is what this song is to me. | |
