Sinch is an alternative rock band from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, USA.
The music of Sinch is often compared to, and is undoubtedly influenced by, the sounds of the Seattle scene. However, despite the band's frequent use of the "soft then loud" formula made popular by bands such as Nirvana and Alice in Chains, such comparisons are inadequate to describe the diversity of its music. Veering between earnest melodic rock, European-flavoured pop, electronica, and angry nu metal, often within a single song, Sinch's music is often unpredictable yet still commercially digestible. Modest Mouse, Beck, Sonic Youth and the White Stripes are cited by vocalist Jamie Stem as being amongst the "millions of bands" listened to by the members of Sinch.
The hard rock quartet Sinch formed in 1994 while its members were attending high schools in Doylestown and Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. To the dismay of parents and the bemusement of friends, the band's members made a pact that upon leaving school they would dedicate themselves to the band rather than pursue college or the military.
In 1996 the band self-produced its first album The Strychnine, earning it regular live slots along the East Coast. Two years later, Sinch released its second record, Diatribe, which gained them further notoriety and won them supporting slots with major-label artists including as KoЯn, Rob Zombie, Linkin Park, Chevelle, and Full Devil Jacket.
