If you only know how much I love you, love you This songs a really good song to explain a relationship that's breakin up.. especially that part up there :( It's kinda a sad song, but it means a lot to me and I love it!

i love this song but it makes me cry. its about loving someone you can't be with anymore. things used to be great, and there is still that memory (the photo on the shelf), but they haven't been that way for a long time (grey ceiling) and although he has apologized and put a lot of thought into things, she thinks he is being childish. but essentially, he knows what he is doing, and while he hates himself for hurting her because he never wanted to, he made a decision. he is upset that she still blames him and can't listen. however, he hopes she too will come to the same conclusion, realise that he never meant to hurt her. the main part that gets me is "I said I'm sorry , but for? If I hurt you then I hate myself Don't want to hate myself, don't want to hurt you Why do you choose your pain? If you only know how much I love you, love you" it is possible to break up with soemone you love, and it will make you hate yourself.

I pretty much agree with everyone here. It's a relationship going through a breakup, and the guy just wonders what went wrong, did he hurt her? How bad? He looks back, apologizes for what he did wrong, and tells her that they can't keep pretending nothing's wrong. And he knows that even though it's over, he still holds a place for her in his heart.

I love sister hazel, and this is the first song I heard by them. I downloaded all the songs from the movie 10 Things I hate About You and this one just stuck out to me. So I bought their cd, and they are amazing. His voice is beautiful and all their lyrics are just...amzing, there is not enough words to describe it.

this song is great because it can have more than one meaning. overall, its about someone who has become someone's "cold season" [beautifully worded by snowbunny] and has hurt them so much that they hate themselves. its a song about forgiving, and in the end, they'll always "be here" for the other person no matter what. snowbunny's explanation was perfect. FAVORITE PART: [ryan's amazing guitar solo] AND "if i hurt you then i hate myself; i don't wanna hate myself, don't wanna hurt you. why do you chew your pain? if you only knew how much i love you.."

I disagree with you guys. I dont' think that this song is about him hurting someone he loved, I think it's about someone he loved always blaming him, always putting him in a position to let her down. He doesn't want to be her winter, or her excuse to cry. I see the excuse part as very significant. If he really had hurt her, it wouldn' eb an excuse. I think he's regretful about the course of the relationship but he is kind of saying "screw you" to the one who keeps blaming him for things. He doesn't want to hurt her, but by continuing in the relationship, he will only be her "winter."

I agree with ladythingsalot. Only, I don't think its as harsh as "screw you" and I dont think its about past love. I think it's about someone over-reacting to things he does while in the relationship. She can't just relax and trust him to not hurt her and he's getting annoyed because he loves her so much. This song means so much to me, it is so moving. Just the thought of not having to worry about if the person you're with is cheating you and to just be able to realize that they love you.

To me, "I won't be your winter; I won't be anyone's excuse to cry".. is kind of about two people who really like each other, but one of them realize's they won't last together..

This song is so amazing lyrically not to mention musically!! I think the song is about a guy who hurt somone that he loved and he has become their "winter", their cold season. The guy is saying that he is sorry for letting her down and that he loves her so much, but he won't stand still and become her winter...ie "I won't be any one's excuse to cry". In the end of the song, he realizes that he loves her too much to just walk away..."I will be here"

Why do you choose your pain? If you only know how much I love you, love you i think this song is about a very close friend. to me, its about a friend who chose the love of another instead of your love for them. and when they did and you didn't like it, you sulked, "I've been acting like a child". you realised that this got you no where but hurt your friend, "I won't be anyone's excuse to cry". but you want them to know that you didn't mean to and that they hurt you so much. i think this song is about honesty. and that if you don't talk to your friends about hwo you feel, pain is all thats left.

To me this song goes perfectly with my last relationship. Things were great but it all went bad and we broke up. Afterwards it was just like no regrets dont cry bout it. Maybe one day we can put this behind us and get back together. Until then we'll love each other as friends.
