I have seen the words to this song in a Sixpence None The Richer songbook at my local Family Christian Bookstore. I didn't buy it - I just checked the lyrics to make sure I was singing it right! It was also interesting to read what they said about their own songs, since they are the ones who really know what they meant when they wrote them. There is no lesbian story in this song. The floor is "moonlit" and we have only one moon. The "moon's sparkling". (contraction for "moon is sparkling") Lead me Out on the moonlit floor Lift up your open hand Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance Silver moon's sparkling So kiss me Kiss me Down by the broken treehouse Swing me Upon its hanging tire Bring bring Bring your flowered hat We'll take the trail marked on your father's map

Yeah, this song is about two girls kissing each other. Either that or the guy is bringing his flowered hat. 0_o The same group also did a version of "There She Goes", and didn't change the lyrics to "he", so I'd venture to say the writer is a lesbian.
