| I agree somewhat with Leo762. The lyrics are really cliche, but thats to be expected from such a young band at the time that hadn't fully developed their sound. MetalMilitia1983, lyrics that focus on satanism have been an archetypical feature of Heavy Metal since Black Sabbath's self titled debut album in 1970 and of Thrash since Venom's debut album Welcome to Hell released in 1981. I don't think the early Slayer songs compare (lyrically) in either extremity or craftmanship to Venom, and certainly they weren't the only bands with satanic lyrics at that time. Hells Bells, the opening track from AC/DC's Back in Black released in 1980 was probably the most suceesful/popular/mainstream example. | |
