I'd like to say I agree with i_am_the_eggman, but I'd like to build on it. I believe Corey is talking about the government of today, our society, and 1984 isn't far off from were we seem to be going. The world chastizes us and takes from us our human like quality and teaches us to mass produce the standard "god person" lifestyle. We are manufactured and turned into a "cult" which is brain washed. Think about who the bad people in our society are. The people who are happy and do what they want. The good people are drones who follow precise order and construct. I think corey is saying he won't let his fans ever become liike that. And we morph the bad people into the good ones everytime they try to escape "Take another shot just to stay the same" . He also goes into the hypocrits we face every day "DO one thing and say something cryptic, but the styles always clash" and now we must fight back before it's too late "One thing I know for sure, the hypothetical won't work anymore". I love one of the lines espiceally "this sacrament is sacrelige it's sentimental diety experimental faith is accidental" (sorry for my poor spelling) he's saying that in reality what we fight for should be fought against, it's just pleasing our emotions so we won't be afraid, it's telling us our expereinces as a culture through a textbook instead through the people who know it, and that i nthe end we were never meant to feel this way or have this faith. My favorite slipknot song by far.

Definitely a denunciation of organized religion, more specifically, Christianity. "Take another shot just to stay the same" - afraid of thinking 'outside the box' and questioning your own religion, so you stuff yourself with more of it. "Oh, my god, it's Judgement Day and I'm not prepared" - Sarcasm. Another form of the all-too-childish 'Ooooh, I'm so scared'. "Do one thing and say something cryptic, but the styles always clash" - trying to point out hipocrisy and multi-interpreted cryptic passages in religion "my nails are tight inside my wrists" - obvious reference to Jesus Christ, also the "sacrament" he refers to.

Well, then he would have to have done some research, because Satanists (real Satanists) don't worship Satan, they worship themselves virtually. Satanists are just related to Satan because back in the 1600s anyone not Christian was considered Satanic (demonic), and the name just kind've stuck. Yeah, it seems to me that this song is about Christianity alone, or maybe all religion as a whole. Not only is this song true, as is Carl Marx's saying that James put down, but it is also a kick ass song. Oh, and Christians out there- don't be offended by this song or what I said, because you don't give a shit about what an Atheist feels.

I've narrowed the song down to 2 possible meanings, I think it's either about a drug dealer (opium) who gets arrested just as he realizes what he's doing is wrong, or its about Marx's phrase "religion is the opium of the people". PS- This song kicks ass PPS- It's not "you have to stop; stop" its "stopx4"

I think that this song is not only about the christian religion, but also the satanic ones. I'm atheist, so you might not listen to my words, but that is alright. I point this out, because it is a known stereotype that people who listen to metal music are supposed to be Satanist and the lead singer knows this and he realizes that there are people who turn to Satanism due to music like his. So not only is his saying that believing in Christianity tends to be hypocritical and useless, he is saying that taking the direct opposite side, Satanism is just as bad. The only proof that I may have are the lines: Deity experimental! Faith is accidental! I won't give another soul to you! I won't give another life to you! I won't give another thought to you! I won't give any more of my hope to you! So he is basically saying to both sides: I'M GOING TO DEFY YOU BOTH OUTRIGHT AND I'M NOT GOING TO LEAD PEOPLE TO EITHER OF YOU!

this song has allot of big words in it but when you break it down and translate it, its like this: This sacrament [holy thing] is sacrilege [created unholy] and sentimental [pleasing to the emotions only] Deity experimental; the essential nature of being a god founded on experience so it is definatly about religion. maybe about being in a cult where the worshipee is just doing it to control people. This song also reminds me of a book i read recently, titled "1984". maybe youve heard of it. anyway, it is about this freak future world where everyone is brain washed into worshiping and obeying the government which is run by someone called "big brother" and the song sounds like it could be from the main charector's point of view, who sees what a bunch of bullshit big brother is and he rebels against him by screwing his girl friend a million times (the only way is all the way), which is against the law in that futuristic world. "one wrong move and they will pound" could come from the fact that in the society he lives in, do one wrong thing and your dead. or worse. there are a bunch of other parts of the song that sound like 1984 but my fingers are starting to hurt.

i reckon it is about religion, christianity most probably, because if u read between the lines on black-goat.com it says slipknot are satanists, not because they have bahophamet on stage tho. im a real satanist, and kno wat the religion is about, and the beliefs are strongly represented in this song. by refering to it as the opium of the people, its sayin it clouds their minds and makes them believe things that arent true, as does opium. satanism is based around the opposites of christianity, and thats y its considered evil.

I'm pretty sure it's about religion and how people become addicted to it and it ends up controlled their whole lives like drugs, and Judas, just because they say organized religion is bad doesn't mean they're aetheists it just means they think that Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and all the other big religions are wrong.
