Before you say, OMG, not another anthem... Think about why there are so many bands singing anthems about our generation (and yes I consider P.O.D.'s Youth of the Nation an anthem) and about the end of the world, and you'll see that this world is tumbling down the spiral. People are killed by people every day. You say, "that's life." Children are lost, abused, and neglected. You say, "that's life." Trials are not fair You say, "that's life." I hope you get the gist of this. That people need to wake up and stop accepting the blackness this world has become and start becoming their potentials to make this a better place. Our generation (X) is born into sin. Like the old phrase goes, "the sins of our fathers." Well now there's policies established by the system that are purely based on sin. Let me relate on a personal note. I have recently switched banks because my other bank kept nickel and diming me (actually $29 at a time) on fees. Every where I turned they hit me with fees. And then one day they ran my rent check through twice driving my balance down to negatives. It was like playing jeopardy. Before they even looked at anything they immediately assessed a $29 overdraft fee, and on top of that I had to pay $20 to stop check. Commerce bank sucks! Its a sign of the times when banks have policies based on Greed. And I don't care how many times they point back to their terms of agreement. I can sign a contract saying that they'll kill my son if I don't do this, and it still doesn't make it right to do so. It's stealing (the bank) and there's no if, and, or buts about it. Sorry for the extreme example but these are extreme times. People listen to this song and wake up. And you'll see life in a whole new shade.

Well in my opinion I think that this song is about all the adults complain about tyhe youth of today and about how they say that they were so much better snd "they never would have gotten away with what we get away with" and "we get so many more opportunities then they had when they where our age" then knit pick cnd complain about all that we do along with the fact they expect all children to be PERFECT ALL THE TIME when thay say that they are such great parents and how we discrace them with everymove we make. They want us to be perfect when thay expect us to be raised by others and by t.v. and radio and never complain. I'm only in tenth grade now and by this time my father had already dropped out of school and I've been ahead of both of them in math for years. Yet as it is I'm not good enought they want us to be perfect they call us lazy but there are less druds and drinking and teen pregnancy statisticly now than their were when our parents were our age still this generation is the failed one. Lasty, the last line "no one gives a shit ... as long as we smile" relates perfectly because no matter what the horror behind closed doors all the parent like people want us to makeit look like everything is alright and we are doing fine no matter what the cost.

This is an awesome song! And even though i do believe ALOT of families are like that. Espicially well-off suburban families showing off their "perfect" family to the neighborhood but also I believe there are ALOT of families that are the exact opposite. I know a great amount of families including my own that are completely uncensored and exactly themselves 24/7. Whether that being happy or psychotic teehee. Many families are either way. Its almost like comparing "The Cosby Show" to "Roseanne" lol... To me one of these shows appeared fake and completely un-relateable while the other exactly like my own family. I think you can pick the one I'm talking about ^_-. Although I do love both shows! hehe

this is really a fuckin awesome song..and i think that most families in america are like this. they fake the smiles, as long as the kids look nice and stuff, no one gives a crap! it's like me n my dad (my parents are divorced and i live with him) he is actully this really short-tempered guy and no one would ever guess it because in public we always act like we get along. the lyrics are beautiful. "behind the fake family image behind the smile of a thousand moms and dads inside the cage that we've been given i see an image of the future that we don't have " who CAN'T relate to that?

Not only is this a great song, but it relates perfectly to today's generation. When I read the lyrics and listened to the song and alla that good stuff, it reminded me about the president and all of the "smart celebrities" saying that their generation messed up everything for this generation.. I thought maybe that's what it was about. That, and, well, technology is killin us dawg... that's life haha. so like yeah, peace. rock on SES.. also, i wanna say that i agree with musicfreak 250% thats exactly what i think

"behind the fake family image" states how family's act like nothings wrong. they smile it off. if u walk everywhere u go and saw random people who didnt know you. im sure you could walk with a big smile on ur face. even if u'd had the shittiest day, or any situation. this song shows how kids today are raised to be FAKE. smile......smile......smile...... i've been in that place when i was younger. and it's habit to smile it off. because kids dont know that their family's fucked up. they're fucked up family is "normal" to them. so they grow up and kids are supposed to be our future right?.......... news flash if thats true by 100 years, the world will be fake as FUCK
