There you go have fun, Kaylee Rules!
===============================================================================
I'm just a normal man
I wouldn't hurt nothing at all
Cuz here we are
Our leaders have a plan
I'd only kill if its for them
Now here we are
I drove in a car
I flew in a plane
to come to your house
and kick your door in
now its down to this
its just you and me
I'll blow your fuckin head off
for my country
I go to church and tithe
I go to work in a suit in tie
But this is war
I'm really not sure why
but the TV says that you were wrong
Now here we are
I drove in a car
I flew in a plane
to come to your house
and kick your door in
now its down to this
its just you and me
I'll blow your fuckin head off
for my country
My feet hurt from the sand
But still I march on gun in hand
cuz this is war
this isn't what I planned
I wanted to be so much more
But this is war
I drove in a car
I flew in a plane
to come to your house
and kick your door in
now its down to this
its just you and me
I'll blow your fuckin head off
for my country
My country...

| Yes, i would like to dispute, but how can you say i don't know what i'm talking about... How can the guy write in the perspective of a man without using a specific man's view that is in that position... As for metallica they do not suck.... "One" a war song, that is neither pro or anti-war, but it does use a specific story: a man that loses all his limbs and his face...... in a little different perspective more of a casualty, rather than about the actual action and the man's normal life that SES tries to portray i was not saying it was a pretty thing, but it's not an ugly thing when it's fought without being in vaine, and this war is not being fought in vaine... Hussaine is killing more of his own people than have in both wars... killing is an understatment of what hussain has done... thats why i believe that he is giving this war a bad image, and our government a bad image, our government is the disappointing part of our society its the people...look...the tv, the drugs, the streets, dont get me wrong the government aren't a bunch of saints they have their bad but mostly their good, but the overall society is worse...that is ugly, not war (unless it's over the rediucluos, and this is not it) | |

| As you can probably already tell.. the band is totally liberal and of course they're anti-war and they show how much of a megalomanic Bush is.. like he's sending a bunch of men into war and they all turn into robots.. and like how it's so ethical to kill when our president says it is.. all in all i think they're right | |

| Being in the reserves, this kinda hits home. Yes I may live a normal life back home, being a peaceful man and what not, but if someone says so then I have to go. I may not like it, and the leaders may be idiots, but I have to go. It's a disturbing duality. And the song is beautiful. Love the last verse... but still I march on gun in hand... | |

| Oh and I have a question. Do you people know the writer of this song? Do you talk to them in normal conversation? Did the writer of this song tell you the meaning? If not, don't say WHAT the song is about. You can say how you feel about it, because you have that right. Everyone is entitled to his own opinions Not his own facts. | |

| its wrong to kill people-unless the government says its alright. Id get put to death in my normal days, where im a casual man who goes to church, wears a suit, drives a car, ect. But when its WAR, I not only can, but have to go kill people. it's not wrong anymore because the government says so. It's a different kind of killing. /sarcasm. | |

| this song does not suck and it does not sound like an anti war song . you all express your feelings about the song being anti war but they cant express their fellings?? i am definatly not an anti war person but the song is just telling it how it is. the whole song is talking about how he would do anything to defend his country even going face to face with someone. its also showing how he is loyal to this country. oh and Smile Empty Soul does not suck!! they are the most talented group ive ever heard. just because you all dont like how they express their feelings, doesnt mean you can rebell against it. so HA! | |

| First of all, Metallica sucks! I'm not against war, either, but of course, it's not a pretty thing. Second of all, I read something on their website that said what the song was about, and it is an anti-war song. Sean hates war and thought he'd write a song from a man's perspective that was neither for it, nor against it. | |

| If you don't like the band--then no one is forcing you to come here and insult us. Hell, NO ONE IS FORCING YOU TO LISTEN TO THEM EITHER. If your "brother" or whoever it is is playing it--THEN GET OUT OF THE HOUSE. Grab some headphones and listen to your own music. Just because you think this band sucks doesn't mean it does suck. Get your ignorance close minded views away from me. I don't want to choke on your opinion--which for some reason you act as if it is the truth. But then again--you might be a dumbass that is too stupid to think before he writes comments down on a board meant for song meaning disscussions. Most likely this is about war. It was probably inspired by what is happening today. Unless you have been living under a rock; you know what I mean. | |

| For all of you who keep saying shit about how we start all these fucking wars... it's not like we've initiated that many. That's no excuse, I dont think that men should be sacrificed for an unecessary cause, but I do think we should have some fucking respect for those who are willing to risk their lives and die for a cause. It doesnt matter whether u like the song or not, Just think for a second: "Could this band know ANYTHING about war without being involved in it or the processes behind it?" Politicians are bullshitters, but musicians are just as bad. Find out some facts for yourself instead of taking in everything a band tells you to. | |

| It is not literal.. He is being sarcastic and resentfull in the lyrics. When he sings about only killing for our leaders it's him being resentfull towards the fact that our nation makes people fight in wars. The military and the media and then goverment strike fear in Americans so they fight wars politicians start. When he sings about going to church and tithe he is being sarcastic to that fact that he is a drone like americans. How he goes to church and prays and pays dues. Also when he sings about going to work in a suite and tie meaning he is a drone with work as well as other americans. He also compares the facts of being a civilian drone and not killing compared to the same person in the military killing. It's all the same... | |

| SlasherLS: You're a Metallica fan, right? What about Disposable Heros, that had basically the same message. "Had no chance to see myself/Molded day by day" Both songs are about media/government brainwashing us. (Metallica played it better, but meh.) In any case, this can be taken the exact opposite from what it's meant if you want, just take it seriously, instead of as a satire. | |

| Slasher, that is probably the most ignorant comment I have heard. It's not about blaming the soldiers. It's about how our country and media brainwashes us. Now if you'd like to debate, thats another thing, but you really don't know what you're talking about. | |

| *NOTE* I am in the military. It's pretty obvious how this song is against the war. I mean, musicians are always liberal pansies and think they know how to run things. Since they have a podium, they think we all need their opinions. Nonetheless, I really like this song. I just ignore the shit they're trying to say and take this at a VERY basic level. I'm here to fucking kill you. It's so simple and beautiful. | |

| i thnk that someone should play this song to george bush. it shows perfectly the futility of war.. how such a good person can be transormed into such a demon, it juxtapositions the mans life, showing his former self and how fine his life was until they came and corrupted him for the sole purpose of fighting for his leaders point of view, whether or not he shares it. "now it's down to this, it's just you and me i'll blow your fucking head off for my country" these 2 lines i think perfectly depict how the man could do anything at that point in time but he has been changed into a killing machine and therefore has no compassion towards the innocent lives that are being lost purely for the benefit of the fighting sides. | |

| It speaks to me about ultimate patriotism, something that I can definately identify with - For me, although I'm not, and never will be, in the military, if my country needed me, I'd do anything no matter how grave. Would this make me a bad/evil person? The song states that: "I go to Church and tithe", meaning that you can still be a good person... | |
