Band: Snow patrol
Song: Wow

This is one of the best songs on snow patrol’s current album.
It’s pretty simple, I think so anyway.

Intro

Guitar1

E|---------------------------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------------------------|
G|---------------------------------------------------|
D|-2--2--x--2--2--2--x--2--2--2--x--2--2--2--x--2----|
A|-2--2--x--2--2--2--x--2--2--2--x--2--2--2--x--2----|
E|-0--0--x--0—-0--0--x--0--0--0--x--0--0--0--x--0----|

Play the above riff a few times for the intro. A second guitar comes in then after a few
bars playing one note (an ‘e’) over this riff. This is played with the same rhythm.

Guitar 2
E|---------------------------------------------------|
B|-5--5--x--5—-5--5--x--5--5--5--x--5--5--5--x--5----|
G|---------------------------------------------------|

Verse/Chorus

F#5 G5
E|---------------------------------|-----------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------|-----------------------------------|
G|---------------------------------|-----------------------------------|
D|-4-4-x-4-4-4-x-4-4-4-x-4-4-4-x-4-|-5-5-x-5-5-5-x-5-5-5-x-5-5-5-x-5-5-|
A|-4-4-x-4-4-4-x-4-4-4-x-4-4-4-x-4-|-5-5-x-5-5-5-x-5-5-5-x-5-5-5-x-5-5-|
E|-2-2-x-2-2-2-x-2-2-2-x-2-2-2-x-2-|-2-2-x-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-|

E5
E|---------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------|
G|---------------------------------|
D|-2-2-x-2-2-2-x-2-2-2-x-2-2-2-x-2-|
A|-2-2-x-2-2-2-x-2-2-2-x-2-2-2-x-2-|
E|-0-0-x-0—0-0-x-0-0-0-x-0-0-0-x-0-|

For the end of the verse just keep playing an E5 chord

The chorus is played exactly the same as the verse only with more distortion.

The song ends on E5

That’s pretty much it. Please rate.
Cheers

Just a general observation about Gary Lightbody. A high proportion of his songs seem to involve him apologizing to someone. Another large proportion of his songs involve his being socially deviant in someway (e.g breaking into a girl's house to leave her a note; wanting to do serious violence to the guy who stole his girl (when its all over we still have to clean up the mess)). Seems to be a pattern emerging, and I'm starting to have a bit of sympathy for his girl.

"say the first thing that comes into your head when you see me if it looks like it works and it feels like it works then it works" I love that... I took it to heart, and i (attempt) to do it at least once a day... actually, it's pretty funny! Try it!

I think it's that he's done something bad to her and she's lost her trust in him and she's trying to get her to come round to going out with him again and using the metaphor of "escaping" to happiness again.

OMG, thanks to bestkissever I'm beggining to understand the lyrics in another way, I just think her explanation is awesome, however I've always loved this song, chorus 1 & also chorus 2 are bloody fantastic, hands down my favorite song from final straw

i always thought in the beginning of the song he says "its like your scared of anything" it doesn't sound like he says "don't be scared" . at least in the album version but not when it does it live. i also lke the new Wow remix.

I think that this is the best song on the whole of final straw. It makes me jump on my bed and scream "SAY THE FIRST THING THAT COMES INTO YOUR HEAD WHEN YOU SEE ME!!!" i want to shout it at everyone...

I'm increasingly drawn to this tune as well. I think its really interesting how they structure the beginning with the layered guitars stacking up with each four bars, and then when the bass and the distorted guitars kick in, well, it makes my foot just a little heavier on the gas pedal. Amazing tune.

Just about jumping in head first and letting life take you wherever it decides to - that sort of instinct. "Say the first thing that comes into your head when you see me, if it looks like it works and it feels like it works then works." is basically just comment on how you should just go with your gut reaction In the context of thesong it's more about a relationship where a girl is afraid and he's pretty much saying to her "don't be scared, trust me, just FEEL it."

Yeah, the words "my role in this mess is not something that I can be proud of" does suggest that the guy did something wrong, but in general I think it's just a really happy song about realising what you have ("everything we have is all we need"), caring less about what others think of you ("means there's no-one watching as we leave"), Moving on ("with the sun on your face all these worries will soon disappear, just follow me now") and worrying less about technicalities in all kinds of relationships ("If it looks like it works and it feels like it works then it works") Either way I love it - it's all cheery ans carefree and summery!
