| Well, I've been dating this girl for coming up on 5 months now. I'm going to school for 6 weeks this summer at Duke University. She's leaving the weekend before to go on a mission trip with her church. That's 7 weeks apart. This song, especially the quote in light up's post, speaks to both of us, as we are scared as to how we will manage for 7 weeks apart. I know, i know... its just 7 weeks... but for us... thats a long time. | |

| Sorry to burst everyone's bubble...and yes, the song is absolutely splendid. BUT... if you look up other song lyrics from Snow Patrol, you'll see that they reference drug addiction a LOT. And with that in mind, taking another look at these lyrics makes you kinda wonder... "Light up, light up"...hmmmm, what could he be referencing here...?? In any case...as much as I'd like the lyrics to be something of deep, moving, qua-qua, good ol' fashion love song value...I kinda think that it mixes in the message of drugs into it. Now, I could be wrong...but if you think I am, please look at at least 5 of their other songs' lyrics, and see just how often they reference drugs. Then think of a few different effects of drugs, think of some different terms or lingo people use to describe drugs and their effects, then take another look at these lyrics. To think I might not see those eyes Makes it so hard not to cry And as we said our long goodbyes I nearly did -"I nearly did"...I nearly did What? I think he means he nearly did, as in, he nearly said his final goodbye...as in, he had an overdose and almost died. Even if you cannot hear my voice, I'll be right beside you...(possibly due to the effects of drugs? - hey, it's possible. Louder, louder And we'll run for our lives I can hardly speak I understand Why you can't raise your voice to say -deppressants/tranqulizers, maybe? You've been the only thing that's right In all I've done -Looking back on life...almost as if it's over...eh? Well, sorry to ruin the joy of the song if that's what I did. But hey, I LOOOVED the song before, probably as much or more so than you, but after looking into their other songs' lyrics, I saw this song from a new perspective. Now, I could be wrong, and it would be cool if I knew I was wrong for sure, as I'd gain some more appreciation for the song. But I still love the song for how it sounds and the ability of his voice to make a deep connection to the listener. Great song...but I dunno, does anyone see it the way I do? | |

| I agree I love this song and i can relate to the lyrics, i think we have all been at that situation where we are afraid to love because of the pissible outcome. "Snow Patrol" is a great band. | |

| It doesn't actually matter what the true meaning of a song is though. People relate to different songs in all kinds of ways, and people just state what they get from the song and how it relates to them. The real meaning doesn't matter, it's what you get from it that's the important thing | |
