Home S Snow Patrol Make This Go On Forever Chords Guitar Tab

By Daniel McHugh
This is one of the best songs on new album- i know that its weird (A) going C G F in the
and that Am would seem more appropriate but i listened very closely and A seems better
Am even tho (A) doesn't match the key- tell me what u think
Capo 4
Verse 1
A C
Please don't let this turn into something it's not
G F
I can only give you everything I've got
A C
I can't be as sorry as you think I should
G F
but I still love you more than anyone else could
A C
All that I keep thinking throughout this whole flight
G F
Is 'it could take my whole damn life to make this right'
A C
This splintered mast I'm holding on won't save me long
G F
Because I know fine well that what I did was wrong
Chorus
Am C F
G
The last girl in the last reason to make this last for as long as I could
Am C F G
First kiss and the first time that I felt connected to anything
Am C F
The weight of water, the way you taught me to look past everything I had
G
ever learned
Am C F G
The final word in the final sentence you ever uttered to me was love
Verse 2
A C
We have got through so much worse than this before
G F
What's so different this time that you can't ignore?
A C
You say it is much more than just my last mistake
G F
And we should spend some time apart for both our sakes
Chorus
x2
Piano Solo
A
Outro
A
And I don't know where to look
A
My words just break and melt
A
Please just save me from this darkness
A
Please just save me from this darkness
There seems 2 be change in chord in outro but piano stays at a constant (A) i think so
what you sing to if your singing along- mite be slight variations in outro and piano solo
me what you think

I love this song, it's definitely my fave off the album. I can imagine it being at the end of a romantic film.

The final word in the final sentence you ever uttered to me was love seems as if he's trying to show her that she can't deny the love she has for him. a brilliant song indeed with an awesome chorus and a great ending. the band is really on to something.. perhaps their best album so far

You beat me to it! Haha, I was just coming here to post the lyrics to this song. Anyway in terms of the song meaning, sounds to me like the narrator's in a relationship that's going through some problems, and he and his girlfriend are going to take a break to try and figure things out, and this song is him saying that he wants the relationship to go on forever.

I think the title pretty aptly explains the song. The last line is amazing, too. The whole song is great to sing along to. Without question one of my favorite songs off the new album.

Truly beautiful but sad song, the singer is explaining his feelings just after a breakup. Lines such as "I can't be as sorry as you think I should" show how he feels dejected as though hes just had a huge arguement and its obvious he knows that he is in the wrong. I love how the chorus sounds like a march, it makes it sound more hopeful especially the line "The final word in the final sentence you ever uttered to me was love" To me it seems as if his lover might have said something along the lines of "I can't love you any more" but all he heard was the word "love" The way the song ends is so apt in explaining how we feel after we've finally given up hope that the relationship will ever work again.

he doesn't want her to overreact about him not being faithful. now he's trying to make up for the problems he's caused. he really is sorry but he doesn't even know how to express it her himself. and he feels so horrible about it because he really does love her to the core. and he keeps trying to think of ways to convey his regret for what he's done. he's holding on to the relationship even though she wants to let go, he's hanging on to a thread because she's hurt and he knows what he's done to her is unforgiveable. he wants to make it last as long as he can because it is the first girl he's ever been so attached too and thats his reason for feeling so bad about it now. their first kiss and their relationship is the first time in his entire life that he's felt connected, that someone has finally understood him. she made him defy what he knew before her. she made him look outside himself to become a better person. and no matter what has been said in the midst of everything.. from the beginning to the end or the break they take.. it's all been done out of love, everything they've said has been out of love because they do care for each other. they've had other problems before, that are probably due to his mistakes and he's so upset with himself that he's asking why she can't just let it go again even though he knows each time she does it kills her.. it's just his selfish reasoning. she tells him how she really feels, that its not just the last time he's messed up.. that she cannot take it anymore. that they need a break because she is hurting too much. and although love is worth pain.. if it is all you are feeling you need to give it room to breathe and she realizes this. he's left in awe that she's finally made this self realization. he's so taken aback that she finally stopped just dealing with it. his words are defenseless to everything she's telling him. he's defenseless to the truth he hasn't been able to face since the beginning. and he's screaming out because now he's the one feeling the pain and darkness. she shifted it to him. they love each other greatly, they are in real love..but they both need time apart to heal wounds, and make things better before they advance and the problems swell. i'd say my interpretation is the best so far. considering this song is pretty much my entire life right now. it's a beautifully put together song, the music conveys the lyrics better than anyone could.

in my opinion, i think that he just means the last girl he was with, and the last reason is him cheating, the lasting long bit is the way he feels after - ashamed but he can't help it, and keeps doing it. that's my take on it anyways!

I love this song so much. I think it may have been written from true experience (maybe it wasn't but); because in the chorus you can feel the emotion in it cos his voice is nearly breaking (in a good way). I love songs where that happens, and you can feel the emotion in the song which makes it real, there are few songs that are like that; they are amazing.

This song is so great especially how he repeats the chorus over and over maybe to make us understand his feelings more. "The last girl in the last reason to make this last for as long as I could" This line in particular means he cheated on her, but made some desperate reason why he did it to save the releationship gives me the idea that maybe he told her the girl he cheated with threw herself at him. It also mentions in the song that they had been through worse which probably means he cheated before and she was finally was fed up with it. In the end he says, "Please just save me from this darkness" which I think is a way of expressing he's alone and has to be saved from his "habit" on cheating or something. It's a real song something I can relate to about men and cheating even though they're completely in love reminds me of Off/On in their albums the songs are very similair in plot...
