I took the song to mean as life goes on we loose the innocence we once had as children. And to the part where the mother wonders if its the end of her precious time. It's not only about our own innocence but those around us. The kid went insane and killed someone and is therefor without innocence anymore. And the chorus says it right there. As we speak in relation to time. (the saying I'm sure you've heard) And without innocence we have a "stone" heart.

Uranium is ok considering the fact they only play the newest videos by the bands and you see the same videos over and over and over and over again. And damn I can't stand when people spell "losing" like "loosing". Goddamn it's not that hard to spell simple words like that.

prtrs i bet u are an american because thats where the majority of crappy nu metal is!! Soilwork is Melodic Death Metal, or Scandinavian metal or death/thrash metal there are some other categorys i cant think of right now that they fit under but nu metal is not one of them. kick ass song by the way!!

I always thought of the 'As we speak, we turn to stone' part of the lyrics as - As we discuss things more and more, instead of solving them we gradually feel less and thus become lifeless - stone. But yeah, that's just me probably :)

To actually put comments on WHAT THE SONG MEANS (after all, this is SongMeanings.com, NOT "SongsYouLike.com" or whatever)... I think this song is a sort of sociological look at the world around us, "as we speak." One line that particularly gets to me is "As we speak a broken-down mother asks herself why/ Is this the end of her precious time?" This is just one thing happening in the world around us. "As We Speak" also has something of an epic feeling, because "as we speak, we turn to stone." I take that as meaning that as time goes on, people die, people are born, and ultimately, people become like stones: forever in existance, just in one form or another.

I really don't think this sounds like new metal at all. Soilwork rules, I hope to see the video soon. This is definitely my favorite song. I think its funny that they made the typo "ass" instead of "as"

HOLY SHIT!!! As i scroll down the page reading everyones posts i see "theotherness". He Wrote ""As We Speak" also has something of an epic feeling". Thats exactly what i was going to say. Im a producer/songwriter, and one of the things that i noticed about this band was their FULL sound. The Natural born chaos CD is so perfect. Honestly I was reading other bands on this site and there were people dissing the bands on the page. So thats the reason i came here. I honestly feel that this band can not be declared horrible...its impossible. Not everyone has to like them, but anyone with a respect for music can admit they are good. End of story.

I love this song, saw the video too it's pretty cool. These guy's have a heavy thrash metal sound, mixed with melodic dark parts. Kind of like Fear Factory or Type O Negative, well not really, but sort of. "Don't despair, time will heal your torment Don't you dare, spend your days in hell So beware, faith will bring you treason While you stare... Oh!" Oh yeah, kick ass lines right there. Best part of the song, followed by a pretty good guitar solo.

I'm not normally a heavy metal fan, but these guys rock. They hold a great, hard, heavy sound but along with it is this harmony of darkness, like an apocolyptic sound. I think that the keyboard/synth. adds a ton to the sound of Soilwork

This is a beautiful song. Soilwork deserves much more credit than they get. Listen to Natural Born Chaos and you will never look at music the same way.

I think this song is looking around the world at an exact moment. As we speak (at this moment), all these things are happening. The "As we speak we turn to stone" line means that this moment is carved into your memory forever.
