| but now, what does it *mean?* (now that we've gotten over his name...) I always got the impression that it was about straight vs. gay relationships. The song blatently says, "the time here is for being straight." Is this what it literally means? Well, it would make sense with the "forget modern nature" (modern nature = gay/lesbian relations). A lot of Sondre's lyrics are vague: it always seems hard to pull one concrete meaning out of his songs. "If things go right they'll have to agree" Who are they? Agree with what? | |

| People like "magenta cricket" or "og tool" are morons. This song is about STRAIGHT love. That is why there is a man and woman duet. Can't you people put two and two together? I mean, I have nothing against gays but this by far is not a "gay or homosexual song." One part of the song has Lillian singing , "Do you have the slightest idea?" to Sondre and follows after his reply with an obvious reluctant whisper, "Why the world is bright when you're in it." Obviously this song is about what "newamusements" and others said; it's about heterosexual love,-NOTE, HETERO-sexual love. Anyway, basically this song is a catchy duet about two seemingly pleutonic lovers trying to break out of their comfort zone to confess their feelings to each other. In the end of the song, it is concluded and revealled that their shells and barriers have been broken as they seem to hum "to doo doo dum, to doo doo dum" repeatedly into the sunset. A well coordinated, well sung, well written, and well played song. Probably the best duet I have ever heard in my life. | |

| i totally agree with tital rabbit and newamusements the whole "homophobic" theme seems like a stretch and doesn't make a whole lot of sense in the context of the whole song and the duet between sondre and lillian | |

| I can't believe people think this is about sexual orientation at all. The "modern nature" is the drama-fueled, idiotic nature of modern relationships. The singer simply wants to avoid this in his current relationship: "Forget all your technicolor dreams. Forget modern nature, this is how it's meant to be." he's just saying that if it's meant to be, it's meant to be. We don't need any of the other "norms" and expectations in relationships. | |

| i think everyone is taking this far too seriously. this seems like a cutesy love song. i think what he means by "the time is here for being straight" is referring to being straight with the girl, aka being honest and (maybe) saying those three little words. the entire second part is pretty romantic--"why the world is bright when you're near?"--what does that verse have to do with homosexuality? anyhow the bottomline is that the song isn't about homosexuality but sondre singing a song about whether what he has with this girl is love ("do you have a clue what this is?"), and if he should say so now ("it's not too early and never too late"), or wait ("People say I should watch my pace"). | |

| Oh how I love this song... It is just so damn catchy! I really wish I knew what it meant though. What Magenta said got me thinking... I wonder if it is related to homosexuality. My problem with that is, I like Sondre, and I don't (like to) think he would be against homosexuality, yet if I take this song as an approach to that topic, it seems anti-homosexuality. "Forget modern nature" seems like he would be saying "go back to ignoring your true feels. Deny who you are." I do not know... Can anyone else shed any light? Maybe it is about not stressing out over things - let it be! Quit trying to explain everything and just take it for what it is? | |

| Okei, so that last comment was really offensive, but as much as I hate to admit it, this song does tend to sound like it's a bit on the homophobic side. The more obvious references, of course, are "technicolor dreams" and "modern nature," but other lyrics could point to homophobia as well. Being "wide awake" could refer to being aware of your sexuality, and "the surface is gone" could refer to coming out. There's also this verse which, to me at least, makes it sound as if he's trying to go against what every one else says is right for him : The time is here for being straight Itīs not too early and never too late People say I should watch my pace (What do they know?) "Think how you spend all your days" (They all say so) I still don't want to believe that the song is homophobic, though, because Sondre is my favorite singer and to know he's homophobic would... crush me. | |

| There are lyrics they sing at the beginning of this song, which are definitely not posted in the booklet sold with the cd, but they definitely sing it on there: The moment has come to face the truth I'm wide awake and so are you Do you have a clue what this is? (I don't know) Are you everything that I missed? (I don't hope so) We'll just have to wait and see (Wait and see) If things go right we're meant to be The surface is gone, you scratched it off We'll make some plans, I let them go Do you have the slightest idea (No I don't) Why the world is bright when you're near? (Is that so?) Stay awhile and wait and see (Wait and see) If things to right we're meant to be. | |

| I don't think this song is about homophobia. you can't take a completely literal meaning from certain words since sondre's english word choice is interesting at best, (turkey-free anyone?). anyways I think this song is just a love song for the "modern" relationship. he's just trying to discover his true feelings for this girl, if he's in love and whether he should tell her. its all about becoming monogamous which is against our modern nature. back to word choice I really think that his "technicolour dreams" don't allude to homosexuality but that a life with this girl would turn his normally grey life into vivid colour. same thing with "the surface is gone" and "wide awake," which I'm thinking is him discovering his true feelings for the chick. I think you have to listen to the entire song, not just the lyrics he posted on his site. anyways the main reason why I'm thinking this song is a love song for a girl is because of the way its sung. a duet with his then-present girlfriend? kind of supicious. anyways the way lillian echos a sentiment after sondre's verse kind of reienforces the uncertainity of how they feel about each other. well thats my two cents.. | |
