Sunday
Sonic Youth

Tabbed by Nic Young
http://garbageman.cjb.net

This is the version of Sunday that Sonic Youth play on their latest CD, A
Thousand Leaves. Thurstons tuning is -C-G-D-G-B-B- and Lee's is -G-G-D-A-G-A-.

Thurston:
Thurston does nothing in the intro, then plays this twice:
D--3----6----3---11-
G--3----6----3---11-
C--3----6----3---11-

Followed by this:
D--8-----5-
G--8-----5-
C--8-----5-

I'm not tabbing out the noise jam in the middle, but after that, the chord
progressions is:

D--5-5-x-5-5-5-X-5-5-5-x-5-8-8-10-10-
G--5-5-x-5-5-5-X-5-5-5-x-5-8-8-10-10-
C--5-5-x-5-5-5-X-5-5-5-x-5-8-8-10-10-

Lee:
All these progressions are involved in the intro somewhere. You can put them
together.
A----------------------- --13---10---3-
G----------------10----- --13---10---3- These chords are played with
A---------10--------10-- --13---10---3- wham bar.
D-----10-----10--------- --13---10---3-
G--10------------------- --13---10---3-
G----------------------- --------------

A--8---11---8----4-
G--8---11---8----4-
A--8---11---8----4-
D--8---11---8----4-
G--8---11---8----4-
G------------------

The last chord at the end of the sequence is:
A--1--
G--1--
A--1--
D--1--
G--1--
G-----

Wanna Be

Its about falling in love with someone. "everyone says its another a phase" meaning that what he's feeling is real, even after questioning the validity of love being real. Sunday always does seem like a slow day but with that one that is being written about, life is so much free, lighter, peaceful, and everything moves in a graceful matter which is why I also think he alluded to "sunday" as the day.

This was one of first songs that I learned to play on the bass and one of the songs that I love the most. Everything about it is perfect, from Thurston's dreamy voice to the maracas right in the end. Sunday is not only a perfect day, but a perfect song.
