| I forgot to mention that the metaphor of a limo wreck was used to symbolize the fall. The people in the limo are clearly of a fairly high society, and it's clear the song's protagonist doesn't care about the wreck, or the people that died in it. Perhaps it could be related to a story of driving past a wrecked limo in a remote area and feeling like a god, having the power to choose if they live or die, and choosing to let them die. | |

| I'm german and love this song. But some lines are not easy to understand for me. It was very interesting to read about what this song means to you, it helps me understand it a lot more. Maybe you coud help me with some questions? What means "Two eyes, two suns, too heavenly blinds"? "Heroes in stretches inch to the site Blowing the pieces, belong to the wind": What are "stretches"? Why is it "belong to the wind" and not "belongs to the wind"? Thanks for helping! | |

Gabba Gabba Hey Average |

| it's about stepping back, and giving up, and letting your care for the world float down the river, washing your hands of a society driving the world against the wall while busily making money or trying to recruit more followers for their religion instead of giving a damn for their neighbours, but it's also about accepting that by giving in you are responsible as well for what it will all come down to, so it really is a song about getting your revenge by passive resistance. Thanks Blind_Opius for pointing out the limo wreck metaphor, which sums it up so well - i never made the connection, but now it all seems so clear. + i agree w/ the essence of what edbutler3 wrote, though i thing that the biblical image of the towers is probably taken from the tower of babylon story rather than the samson one. of course, the samson imagery might still apply to the narrator. if he be the driver of the limo, then - to stay inside the picture - he'd be letting go of the steering wheel (like a chauffeur deciding to no longer work for his employers) and just watch what happens, saying "you were the ones who gave up control a long time ago by letting others care for you without caring for them". | |

| i like darkspot's take on this... ill be going down for the rest of the slide while the rest of you harvest the souls probably my favorite lines... seems like hes saying while the glamorous people continue their empty, superficial struggle for power (or whatever it may be: money, clothes, etc..), he will be living his life focusing on reality and what is worthwhile and meaningful in life | |

| I hate to say this but it reminds of the sinking ship scenes in the movie Titanic. The tempo makes me picture a waltz going on while the ship is sinking. I was actually going to do a concept video of this song with scenes like that. | |

The MADMAN Average |

| This song makes me think that Chris Cornell was the true mastermind behind 9/11, but I really need to not think that. >_> | |

| It's more than just solely about the fall of the civilized world, it's about adopting a relative apathy to it. Cornell clearly places himself outside of the events in the lyrics, saying where he'll be when everything happens, then says that he's "the wreck of you ... the death of you all," perhaps signifying that apathy is what will damn the world. Also, this would be a rather inappropriate song for 9/11. Even if I was heroically unmoved by the events, the verse... "Under the red break of the lights Heroes in stretches inch to the site Blowing the pieces, belong to the wind When the whole thing blows away I won't pretend." ...doesn't exactly show pride in the nation the way most people would want, though I like the fact he's saying he won't pretend to care. Whatever. | |

| ! I do agree that it relates really well to the post 9/11 trauma- I think what Cornell is saying is that he knows it's going to happen, it's all going to come crashing down eventually, and yet they all keep working so hard to build it up. ~~ The first verse refers to the tower of babel, obviously, all these tiny people burning underneath the sun to build up this gigantic effigy...and I think the title Limo Wreck refers to a rich person getting into an accident and suddenly seeing something like an entire company come crashing down. ~~ The second verse very obviously refers to the eyes of god, who would be figuratively watching over all the peasants- there is a greater force in life that seems to control order and discipline- when the tower is built too high, it inevitably crashes. ~~ What seriously fits as a 9/11 verse is the aformentioned one: "Under the red break of the lights" It obviously refers to an ambulence, but it could also be a firetruck "Heroes in stretches inch to the site" Would refer to firemen, edging toward supposed ground zero "Blowing the pieces, belong to the wind" Pieces of debris flying in every which direction- you've seen the videos "When the whole thing blows away I won't pretend" And despite long evidence pointing to such a disaster, and that it was in fact a long time coming, he won't pretend he's surprised it's happened. Especially eery that the world trade center was something akin to a symbol of america's thriving wealth- and the "highest tower" sort of thing- creepy. | |

| i think its personifying the hatred in mankind, and its told in 1st person frm this viewpoint, kind of mockinly as the world falls apart, like: "When the whole thing comes crashing down, Don't ask me why" and : "I'm the wreck of you, I'm the death of you all " its about the world falling apart frm decadence, while the singer "wont pretend" to care | |
