Man, I love this song. Cornell's voice is so awesome. I love the way he can hit those notes you thought you'd never hear again. I haven't heard singing like that since Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin. Really awesome song.

I think shedding is a much better lyric; anyone can curse, using language is much more artistic and descriptive. Also, feeling MN probably doesn't mean feeling bad, cold would be more accurate - when you think of MN you don't think of bad, but cold. I like the interpretation suggested by KingJehu. The song is definitely about feeling low/depressed because of something that used be a source of happiness/joy and then finding something else (or rediscovering in the something) happiness once again. Great music, great lyrics, great singing. Doesn't get much better than this.

First off yes this is an older song/post.. oh well Anyway the song is about him being a rock star and how that lifestyle can break/make you. Here: I got up feeling so down (the lifestyle can get to you) I got off being sold out (being sold out to a crowd is the best feeling the world, makes you high) I've kept the movie rolling(keep playing for the fans) But the story's getting old now(this gets old after awhile, having to write songs and then play in front of your fans) I just looked in the mirror(can this go on forever?) Things aren't looking so good(I need something to help me out, like drugs) I'm looking California(on tour) And feeling Minnesota (just had that rush from Minnesota, yeah a sold out crowd and I am still feeling it) So now you know, who gets mystified (not you my dear fans but I am the one that is really entertained.) Show me the power child, I'd like to say That I'm down on my knees today It gives me the butterflies, gives me away Till I'm up on my feet again I'm feeling outshined (With this, the power child are the fans but when I feel like quiting I visualize the fans and it helps, a lot. Until I am not depressed. “up on my feet again”) Someone let the dogs out(metaphor, talking about the way you feel, like letting the cat out of the bag.) They'll show you where the truth is(can't get help until you say something to someone) The grass is always greener Where the dogs are shedding I'm feeling that I'm sober Even though I'm drinking I can't get any lower Still I feel I'm sinking (The grass is greener on the other side yes the dogs defecating on the grass will make the grass greener but it's not worth walking on even if the end results in a prettier grass, or in other words the whole band is feeling the stress but he doesn't know that so what's the point of trying to talk about to them? They look like they are having fun. So he continues to drink but this does nothing for what he is feeling and alcohol make the depression worse.)
