Story of the Year is a punk rock/ metal/ Alternative band originally formed in St. Louis in 1996. Initially named Big Blue Monkey, in 2002 they changed their name to Story of the Year because a blues group had already taken the name Blue Monkey.
The band recorded a few demos after its formation and might have recorded some EPs. However, they didn't release their first album, Page Avenue, until September of 2003. Their first single from that album was "Until The Day I Die" written by singer Dan Marsala. It first received radio airplay around July/ August 2003 on stations like KROQ and sold thousands of copies worldwide. Their album Page Avenue sold over 500,000 copies worldwide.
The band toured with Linkin Park on the Meteora World Tour in 2004 along with P.O.D. and Hoobastank. They were also on the Van's Warped Tour and at KROQ's Weenie Roast on June 12 on that same year.
Basassins/Live In The Lou (a CD/DVD combo of live preformances and touring video) was released on May the 16th (?) and was a hit amongst Story of the Year fans.
On October 12, 2005 Story of the Year released its new album, "In the Wake of Determination".
When their album In The Wake Of Determination was released it had sold 500,000 copies by December 2005. Meaning that it went Gold in under 3 months.
They have recently completed filming for their second single off the new album entitled "Take Me Back".
