Sorry, I was typing fast. I meant... I LOVE this song. I found it on Limewire, and it's without a doubt the best song on the album. Having been born and raised in Brooklyn might have something to do with it, too. Anyway, there are always radio and television commercials, as well as billboards and signs, all over the city telling New Yorkers "If you see something, say something". They've been around since 9/11. The guys being from here, with Adam and Matt living in Brooklyn, I have a feeling it has something to do with that.

its funny, because the "if you see something, say something" is a slogan the newyork city metro transit authority has been using since 9/11 in all their vigilence spots. I have to think this had something to do with the title. just an amusing fact

Okay so i'm thinking while reading everyone's comments that for one i admit i thought it was about a girl but after hearing about the whole "if you see something, say something" used after 9/11 and all the chaos... well im thinkin that for one the chorus that adam wrote is trying to say that although the mishap was genuine and true it was unprepared so next time if u see something say something... after thinking abotut hat then i start thinking more about the terror attacks and how people are saying that the government was behind it all so when he sings that "we are going once, twice, three times sold" that we all bouht into the lies they told us and that we arebetter off believing everything we heard was true. and the side stuff like the "too brooklyn im homebound" is saying hes going back to his roots bc he is attached and wants to be there for everyone and how there were poor martyrs how are better men than he will ever be. they deserve the credit and yet we arebeing cheated by our own government. I know it's touchy but let me know what u think about this. thanks!

ok i kind of agree with you the previous comment, but i think it seems out of character for adam to talk about the government. ok so... i think it is talking about a relationship (since that is what adam almost always used to sing about) i think he's saying that he was better of believing everything the girl told him was true. that sounds like hes giving advice to people so they dont get hurt like him. and then the "genuine and unprepared" sounds like stories and excuses he got from his girl. i think the whole song is talking about how he was hurt by her and is homesick and is glad he's finally "homebound" to brooklyn. just to point something out...a lot of times singers put things in there that sound good because they needed inspiration, not always because every phrase has meaning to it. while i agree with the "if you see something then you should say something" came from the NYC motto, but i think he threw it in there because it sounds good and that it reminds him of the home that he misses ok i'm done

It's definitely a nod to the subway safety campaign, but I dunno if I buy the whole 9/11 thing. Then again, I think the most convincing line for that theory is, "marking miles of martyrs of better men, better men than me." That sounds A LOT like a reference to the New York City police officers and firefighters. I don't think it's "obviously" about 9/11, though. It may be using 9/11 and the war etc. from a more personal standpoint, rather than making a political standpoint, similar to how Alkaline Trio did "Warbrain," which is at first glance, a love song, but also definitely about the war.

Adam sounds incredible in this song. Anyway, i believe this song is about assuming and how assumptions can kill a relationship. If i may take on the roll of Adam or Fred (whoever wrote the song) "If you see something then say something"; if you see me in the act then you can blame it on me...if not then shut the hell up. Dont believe everything you hear. How could you think that people's bullshit lies and rumors are genuine and unprepared? Dont assume because i would have told you but i didnt know how. thats my take on it.
