"Times of trouble" / Temple of the Dog
Really extensive version!

I think the main riff is something like this:

------------(1)---------------------------|
-------------(1)--------------------------|
-------0-------0--------------------------|
----------------0-------------------------|
-----------------3------------------------|
--1h3-------------1-----------------------|

this song was meant to maybe make us see the light at the end of the tunnel. the lyrics explain that no matter how terribly low you've sank, that time will heal you. chris basically says "Don't do what Andy did. Don't fall into the trap of heroin. Don't loose hope, and don't fall short of your full potential". the part of the song that speaks to me the most is " i somebody left you out on a ledge and if somebody pushed you over the edge, and if somebody LOVED YOU AND LEFT YOU FOR DEAD, youve gotta hold on to your time till you break through these times of trouble". don't forget what they've done is what he's trying to say, but move on and learn.

Everyone else basically summed up this song I just wanted to say that this one really stands out to me in the music and the emotion behind the lyrics. This is a really great group with some of the best talent on the grunge scene. It's too bad they had to form under such terrible circumstances.

What a great song. To me, it clearly points out the dangers of drugs (particuraly heroin) and why one shouldn't fuck themselves up on drugs. Awesome song...awesome message...It's so much better than "Footsteps".

Very powerful indeed... I like this song alot, and I find this to be a good song for the Gossard riff too.

"I saw you swinging Swinging your mother's sword" Anyone know what that bit is about? There's an entry over at urbandictionary.com saying that sword is a nickname for a syringe. That fits well with the rest of the song, but I can't see what it would have to do with his mother. Some connection to 'Mother' Love Bone perhaps? But then I don't know what Mother Love Bone means either...

this song is amazing and just recently, being a huge pj fan(look at all my posts)have finally accepted tht this is better than footsteps(although also very powerfull as the execution in the mamason trilogy) the last five lines is the best part of the song chris cornell and eddie should do an albm together, tht would be amazing...you already see what both their voices in one song sounds like-hunger strike

I have to say, I love both versions, but Footsteps really hits the spot for me, maybe it's because I bum Edved so much, it's hard to sway a die-hard pj fan.

The music from this song was used for Pearl Jam's song "Footsteps".

Stone Gossard had the riff that became both Times of Trouble and Footsteps (Pearl Jam). Stone gave the demo of the riff to both Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder at the same time. The tune and lyrics that Vedder put to the song became Pearl Jam's Footsteps and Cornell's became Times of Trouble.
