[Convention: each chord is two beats/half a measure. A dash indicates that

1.
|: Bm F#m E Bm :|
I was born in a lighthouse, my mother was the sea
I crawled to school each morning when it occurred to me

G D F# Bm
that life's just a mood ring we're not allowed to see

E - F# -
and this is what it said to me:

Chorus:
Bm A Bm F#m
My room's comfortably small with rubber lining the walls

Bm E A -
and there's someone always calling my name

Bm A Bm F#m
he calls when I'm alone and he calls when I'm not home

D - F# -
and he calls when I'm stuck out in the rain

|: Bm - / A :|
I'm insane

2.
Now listen all you swingers, don't you try to tag along
I know monkey see but monkey's dead, for you it would be wrong
put a dime in my jukebox - you'll only hear this song
and it won't be fun for long

(Chorus)

-E.M.

This song is about insanity. Besides the overt "I'm insane," observe the room with padded walls (the insane asylum). The rest of the song may have meaning, or may be merely deranged thoughts. One funny TMBG-style alteration of language is the substitution of "monkey's dead" for "monkey do." The song is about Bill Krauss' state of mind during some of the recording. It's kind of like a tribute/mockery of Bill's mental state.

And here I thought it was merely nonsensical. I think a lot of their music is, like nothings gonna change my clothes: All the people are so happy now, their heads are caving in! Anyway, thank you for shedding some new light on the subject.
