my girlfriend and I are having a really rought time right now, and are plagued by constant arguments even though we both know we love each other. the line Take the moment of hope And let it run Never look back At all the damage we have done now To each other has so much meaning to us. One day we were arguing about something and this came on the radio, and that line just made us realize that we were wasting our time fighting, and we need to learn to forgive each other.

My two cents on Icarus: I agree with the Greek Mythology idea, and that he is claiming to be the next incarnation of him. I think by saying "not a t-shirt" he is saying "this isn't just some passing fad (I'm not going to get over you)" Brad Pitt says something similar to Kevin Spacey at the end of the movie 'Seven': "You're a t-shirt! At best!" And a "swan song" is a last hurrah for a performer. By saying this is "not a swan song" means "this isn't the end if I have anything to say about it". Maybe my wings will melt again ... oops, I mean his. PS: not really

"we are lucky/we are golden/We have stolen manners/in the days when we were one" When you're with someone for a long time you're so comfortable around them, you pick up little things they do and do them yourself. And when you find yourself doing them still, it's like a painful reminder, but in this song he sees it as proof they should still be together

Well, the line is "Icarus is not a t-shirt or a swan song/He is born again..." and not "The rest is not a t-shirt or a swan song/Heat is born again," according to the 3EB website. While I don't know if this is what the song is referring to, Icarus is from Greek mythology, the son of Daedalus, and the story goes that they made wings out of wax to escape from the Labyrinth, and Daedalus told Icarus not to fly too close to the sun but he did anyway, and the wings melted and he fell to his death. Any ideas how that fits in the song, or is the "Icarus" in the song referring to something else?

Greek Mythology definetly fits. Third eye blind is amazing and the more songs i listen/read i find myself finding them that more interesting and amazing. I think they are excellent writers and damn god musicians.

like every third eye blind song, the lyrics are brilliant and have a very unpredictable flow to them. it always suprises me how well they can convey feelings that most cannot express out loud. my favorite part of this song is And I fall down on what to say oh something clean, let me be clever Hey oh well, whatever But that's not what I mean Where we're been has left us burned still i wont turn now from a fight You know I'll never win i've been dating my boyfriend for over 2 years now and it is easy to get into a rut and forget why you're making such a commitment to the person. i like this line because it seems like young lovers have this blind drive to just give themselves to the other person, and not give up on them. even though they have no clue what they are doing or what to say

I think that the line "Icarus is not a t-shirt or a swan song/He is born again..." refers to the Led Zeppelin t-shirt with Icarus on the front called the 'swan song' shirt. Of couse the Icarus reference has much more significance to the song than that but I just wanted to point out the t-shirt reference.

yupp.. greek mythology.. it makes sense, i think if hes refering to her as the sun then hes saying he is Icarus... "i've just fallen back to earth, but you know i'll try again" like when Icarus' wings melted, he fell to his doom. If icarus would'nt have died, we know he would have gotten up and tried to flu again... yeah????

If you listen to older songs by 3eb you will notice the Geek Mythology refrences and....yes! The band name. Seriously this song deserves a grammy. Not my favorite of theres or my favorite from this album but it fits into best rock song catagory and should have one or at least been nominated. Yes it is great. 'Hey oh well, whatever But that's not what I mean

i don't even know what to say ..this song leaves me absolutely speechless. third eye blind was on like regis and kelly, and they played this song ..it was awesome. my favorite part of the song is "time, it passes and it tells us what we're left with. we become the things we do. me, i'm a fool, spent from defiance. yeah, you got me, but i didn't give up on you." oh and weezerfanatic ..that is so sweet

what an awesome song. definintely one of my faves on out of the vein. i think stephan captures the feeling really well of spending time w/ someone you used to be with and being uncomfortable/not exactly sure how to act. as far as the icarus allusion, in the song he also says, "and i've fallen back to earth still you know i'll try again." and earlier in the song he says, "i didn't give up on you" (he will keep trying). the terms "blinded" and "staring down the sun" are obviously repeated throughout much of the song, so the icarus allusion fits. continuing this relationship (trying to fly to the sun) is dangerous in a sense, and he knows he may get "burned," (get too close and fall back) but he is obviously still strongly affected by this person and thinks it is worth it to keep trying...?

yeah this song has a place in my heart. i have a thing for this one girl, kelly. one night she came to my house out of no where and although she had never shown interest in me before by the end of the night we had ended up in the hottub for several hours. a few days later however she tells me she doesn't want a relationship and that we are better off as just friends...when ever i hear "And I wanna stay right here And go down on you for an hour" i think about the way i feel when i am around her and cannot have her the way i would like us to be. if you've ever been around that special someone you always want to come off as being smooth and cool...jenkins captures this with the line "And I fall down on what to say oh something clean, let me be clever Hey oh well, whatever But that's not what I mean" i can never seem to find the right words to start a conversation with her...it always ends awkward and strange. "Where we're been has left us burned still i wont turn now from a fight You know I'll never win" this is a line that tears at those of us who are romantic losers...we never know when we don't stand a chance...hope is always there. "Time it passes and it tells us what we're left with We become the things we do" is the best line in the song...people can say that what they do isn't who they are...but when it's done long enough or often enough we indeed become what we do. either way...whomever reads this please wish me luck with kelly...

well, these song is really nice! it means to me. like these two persons who have been involved in a relashonship that now is over. But the guy still feels something for this girl, so he keeps coming around and around to visit her, like trying to recover the friendship... but deep inside of him he still loves her and everytime he sees her he "go blinded" because she is so beautiful to him that he can't avoid going blinded. Apathy over her good look with kelly!
