Darwin
Written by Third Eye Blind
From the Album entitled "Blue"
Transcribed by adidas45h@prodigy.net
This song is a real cool song to play, especially on an acoustic guitar. I think you can
also use bare chords in this song
but personally I think it sounds better like this.Listen to the song ,when you play it
even though I showed most of the
timing because there are a few spots that you have to come in suddenly.

| Just like to be the nerby biology student and say he's got his evolutionism mixed up. Chromosomes multiply or replicate, THEN they divide, not the other way around. Wow I'm such a geek. | |

| This song, to me, represents a search for truth, and for grace. Our lives have begun to lose meaning, amidst the "escaping space ships" that we cannot control, and there is no way in our human life to correct what we have done wrong. He's asking the question, is this life all there is, is there nothing after it. If evolution is true, that means there is the absence of a soul, an afterlife, a God, and there is nothing to existence what so ever. We need something good, some one to save us, to finally take us from this "long night" | |

| I've got to say, the reptilian alien confuses me a bit - if he's alien, the cladistics would be off for him to be considered a true reptile, and even if an iguana or something had caught a ride on a meteor to alienland to evolve there, it would still be like me wearing boots made out of human skin [And I'm obviously the biology nerd from hell ;)]. Great song though. | |

| This song is an expression of disenchantment with life. When you break down human existence to the smallest level, its just multiply and divide. He's wondering, "Is this all for nothing?" Theres also a satiric fantasy of the human race being created by extraterrestrials impregnating apes. The references to skipping records and skipping the long play are about an almighty being (God) who runs the discoteque of life from above. He expresses desires to create something as well, maybe thats the good thing he's lacking. | |

| Are you sure this proves he believes in evolution? I kind of interpreted it as being a questioning of evolution. Like it is too simple or something. A feeling that there has to be something more, or a reason for life. | |

| None of this shit is about finding God, people. Stephan's an atheist, and this song, I think, is about coming to terms with that atheism, realizing that the world isn't magical, and in a way that kind of sucks, but that's just how it is. | |

| I want to be the DJ! Life is really simple but humans really like to complicate everything. Money, and economies and politics. It all comes down to happiness, you just need to ask yourself, are you happy? | |

| I agree with mxrudeross, "we're lacking something, something good" makes it seem like he believes there's something else out there to be taken into account, maybe a higher being | |

| Stepha Jenkins is a funny guy. And a spaceman fucked an ape Then cut out on the date And now it's much too late The space ship has escaped Let it go Its satirical I think somewhat. and for me kind of ani religion because its saying that we were put here and then whoever did it didnt commit to its creation and left and that we need to let it go. Like god created us and then didnt bother checking in on us and totally gave up and that we need to let it go and not worry about going up to heaven (space) because its just not gonna happen. Then he begs the question, theres got to be something, something good. | |

| This song means different things to different people. Stephan Jenkins says he is an atheist, yet he prays therapeutically. Basically the song shows that Stephan believes in evolution. | |

| It's about how evolution exists, but how nothing really accounts for these "spikes".. Boom tick tick, who skipped the long play Big Bang and everything is moving along, then all of a sudden there's MP3 Players, the internet, microwaves, cable TV's and the link. What gives? We went from being in total control of our existance (hunting/gathering/storing) to discovering all this crap that makes no sense to us, things like the human genome, AIDS, cancer and the like. I dont know, there's more to it, but that's all I can really put into words right now. Great song though. | |
