| I never thought of it as a high school graduation, because he says "can i get my punk ass off the street/i've been living on for so long" i saw it more as hes sick of being worthless, being looked down on, and he wants to get out of it and make something of himself, overcome prejudice and mabye something that makes him ashamed ""can i look at faces that i meet" | |

| OK I DID MY RESEARCH AND HERE'S WHAT I CAME UP WITH: the songs not really about male prostitution, but its comparing trying to get a record deal as "whoring themselves". this is what stephan said about graduation in the little pamphlet thingy that comes with the album third eye blind:a collection "In the mid-90's i was trying to live my life outside institutions. Yet i found myself at institutions called record labels, trying to get a job. So this comes from the experience of whoring yourself out, standing in front of "the man." Asking permission in this song is really ironic, because its really about demanding your place. It came together while we were jamming, and it represents one of those moments when it felt so good to be playing on our own terms." peace. | |

| Senior year, at the VERY end, I had a project with a presentation in a teachers class who was not to fond of me, and I thought she might fail me. I played this song along with my presentation, and the teacher actually cracked a smile! I passed, thanx to my extra credit for "audio/visual aid" But I think she just liked the song! | |

| SJ said himself that this song is about male prostitution, and how the character in the song resolves to make something of himself after years of nothingness. Its also a great coming-of-age song, an inspiration to become the best you can be. 'Can I graduate' can be a graduation from anything- school, quitting smoking, getting promoted, dating a beautiful woman, moving away...Killer song. 3EB is unreal. | |
