| I agree totally with sarac, I love this song now after having mixed emotions for it at first. It is also very touching to me, sometimes I cry. Music does that to me. He sounds like his whole life left when she did. I've felt that way, the dependent relationship that is suddenly pulled out from under your feet leaves you hanging pretty awful. Like chewed bubble gum discarded for fresher, or a previous angel bereft of all brilliancy, just cuz they can't see you......... Anyways, enough of the gloom.... | |

| Im not sure if this is my fave song, either this or god of wine, the last 4 songs on the first record are awesome (not to mention gorgeous and scattered). I think the song is about the period after the end of a relationship, probably through a death, and how desperate and lonely you feel without your other half. Also, stephan said something about this song having to do with (rape)? Just like Wounded, maybe something happened to an ex of his. | |

| Yes this song is of course about someone whose girlfriend is in a coma. I agree with HaloDemon about how touching this song is. I love how after the second chorus the really just pull out the electic amazingly and for the rest the guitar is wailing in the background. That is amazing. | |

| this song is a reflection on the past of someone he still has plans on being with, even though shes gone, its like he cant let her go. it starts off with him doing things they did before to kind of connect with her and walk through the memories they shared. definitly she died in a hospital where he tried to be there for her even though her living through it was not in his hands. he carries her around in the background, the background is the life he is living now, kind of in the background of life where he is alone in the world and everything else is carrying on in life, except him with her memories and words of love that he only feels for her, and no one else. thats why he "still has plans with her in them" bc he is living in the aftermath,"the background", the hopeless and dark world without who he loves. | |

| the lyrics are amazing.. this song made me cry.. Im pretty sure this song is about how he is losing someone due to an illness (lyrics about the hospital??) and she's still in the background (always in his mind and he might be in somewhat of a denial that she's not really in his life anymore, he doesn't want to believe that) and the part at the end "I'm way, i'm way in the background" means that she has possibly forgotten about him, maybe her illness makes her forget her past.. that's what I got out of it.. either way it's a very sad song.. I like it but cant listen to it that much cause I'll cry.. the guitar part is good.. | |

| There is really something to be said about the way that this band has the ability to take experiences that everyone has and put them in to words in a way thats not blatant like "I have memories of you" but on a level thats understandable but intellectual at the same time "I carry you around in the background". Also the line "I felt you long after we were through, when we were through"...just makes you think. | |

| I take this song pretty literally, his girl is in the hospital, maybe she will die very soon, "I don't see you anymore Since the hospital" "I lift your head while, they change the hospital sheets " but he can't help thinking that she'll return, and he continues to make his life plans with her in them, even though she probably won't make it. "The words they use so lightly I only feel for you" Those words being, "i love you" | |

| this is my favorite 3eb song. i remember listening to this album with my mother and then for some reason, a couple of years later i got a flashback of their jumper video and wanted to listen to 3eb. when i finally remembered the name of the band, i downloaded this song and listened to it for five months straight. that is how much i love this song. | |

| It seems like no one can agree whether or not the girl dies...it seems to me that this song is about the time immediately following the accident...and it's her fate is still up in the air. The song is about the anguish of being seperated from a loved one and the possiblity of losing that person forever. It's bittersweet because of the memories that he has, mingled with likelihood that they will never be together again. My favorite part is the chorus: The plans I make still have you in them 'Cause you come swimming into view And I'm hanging on your words like I always used to do The words they use so lightly I only feel for you I only know because I, carry you around in the background I'm in the background | |

| i love the lyrics 3eb uses in their songs. they are always deep and meaningful. when i hear this song i feel like she is in a coma and he can't say all the things he wants say to her. and he is realizing how much he actually loved her, so much so that she haunts his thoughts. and as for the plans he's making for the future, he can't imagine not having her in them. i think this song also touches me because i think we all encounter that one person that affects us so deeply that we can't imagine life without them....even after they are gone. | i love this song because the numbness of the background really conveys the feeling of numbness you get when something that was there isnt anymore but you're still thinking about it. something that i struggle with is hanging onto things that have happend. not just relationships but trips i've taken, getting older, people i don't see anymore. its hard when that depression sinks in and you can't connect and go back to the way things were. nothing can ever be the same with certain things. | |

| It's definetely about a guy who's girlfriend is in a coma or something. He mentions the hospital and hospital sheets and stuff. And he's holding onto the one tiny hope that she'll pull through and so he's still holding true to all the promises he's made to her, thus in a way "carrying her around.. in the background." | im not the biggest 3eb fan but i saw em at jones beach, ny and i thought they were pretty good. this is one of my favorite songs from them....the best lyric is "the plans i make still have you in them" its so great...its a great song i recommend it be listened to late at night repeatedly if ur depressed | |

| This song was simply just a favorite of mine until last June a dear friend was killed in a car accident. We played softball together for years, and now that the season has begun and she's not here to share it with any of her former teammates, this song means a little more to me. | This song is definetly my favourite song ever. I mean it. Not only because lyrics are intense and tremendously sad.. Also because is perfectly "constructed". The "power" of the song follows the emotion of the person who speaks. In the first part we come across the speaker. So he starts to talk about the thing. It's pretty emotionless. Then, as the memories keep coming back, the power grows, expressed in the second part. And then, the sorrow, the pain, the despair explodes. This is the third (mostly instrumental) part, with the high pitch. And then, in the end, the numbness comes back. This is perfectly expressed in the immediat musical reprise. A person in the background. | |
