Lyrics:
Losing a whole year
Losing a whole year
I remember you and me used to spend
The whole goddamned day in bed
Losing a whole year
Hiding in your room we'd lay like dogs
And the phone would ring like a joke left unsaid
Losing a whole year
And now I realize you never heard
One goddamned word I ever said
Losing a whole year
Losing a whole year
And I remember you and me used to spend
The whole goddamned day in bed
Losing a whole year
Losing a whole year
I remember you and me used to spend
The whole goddamned day in bed
*Ends on "Hey, Hey"*

Lyrics:
Rich daddy left you with a parachute
Your voice is sounds like money and your face is cute
But your daddy left you with no love
And you touch everything with a velvet glove and
Now you want to try a life of sin
You want to be down with the down and in
Always copping my truths
I kind of get the feeling like I'm being used
Took your stuff and put it in the basement
When I found out what the smile on your face meant
I've seen you pop that check
Craning your neck at the car wreck
It always seems the juice used to flow
In the car, in the kitchen, you were good to go
Now we're stuck with the tube
A sink full of dishes and some aqua lube
And if it's not the defense, then you're on the attack
When you start talking, I hear the Prozac
Convinced you've found your place
With the pierced queer teens in cyberspace
When youwere yourself it tasted sweet
But it sours into a routine deceit
Well this drama is bore
And doesn't want to play no more

| POTENTIAL GATSBY SPOILERS!!! I also caught the Gatsby reference (esp. "your voice sounds like money and your face is cute") and actually came on here to see if I wasn't alone, and if anyone knew if it was actually written about Gatsby and Daisy's relationship. Here's my take on it: First of all, I'd like to mention that I believe the line is "aqua lube" not "aqua tube" so it wouldn't be a reference to Gatsby's wherabouts at the end. On to the allusion: What first tipped me off was obviously "your voice sounds like money and your face is cute" because of the incredible emphasis put on Daisy's voice throughout the novel, and how Nick actually comes to the realization that her voice sounds like money. "you touch everything with a velvet glove" is the way Daisy lives her life with Tom. She and Tom have "acheived" the American dream of wealth, and she looks upon others with disdain. Gatsby then reunites with Daisy and she "tries a life of sin" attending his "uncivilised" parties and betraying Tom. Even the "craning your neck at my car wreck" could be a reference to the end of The Great Gatsby when Daisy runs Myrtle over, and later on Tom, Nick, and Jordan arrive on the scene rubbernecking like no other. "I remember you and me used to spend the whole goddamned day in bed" could be a reference to the history between Gatsby and Daisy that Gatsby tries to hang onto, but that's something of a stretch, and as far as "losing a whole year" goes, the book may or may not have taken place over the course of a year (I'm completely making that one up, nothing whatsoever to back it, so feel free to refute it). I just wanted to share my thoughts on Gatsby and 3EB. For those of you who havent' read Gatsby, you should, and you shouldn't have read this, though I knew the ending of it before I read it and I still enjoyed it immensely. | |

| i agree with the whole gatsby thing which really makes me love this song so much more. however, i disagree that the relationship became boring in the sense that previous posters have used. "well this drama is a bore and i don't want to play no more." i think he is saying that at first he was kind of enchanted by this girl's ways; she was rich, exciting, and a bit jaded. now that he has been with her a while he realizes that the drama was only exciting for a short while and that it has lost its charm. it seems like its maybe beginning to piss him off. | |

| yeah, rocketqueenz, i think i got the relationships confused... but then i also see nick as the narrator, kind of naive yet tired w/ the whole glamourus lifestyle. hmm, maybe this only makes sense to me. I don't think Gatsby ever got tired of chasing after Daisy. IT'S A MIX OF ALL OF THEM! wow, 3eb, wow. | |

| I'm thinking it's about a couple who's relationship was based almost entirely on sex. The girl is a sheltered rich kid with a false sense of reality ("now you touch everything with a velvet glove") who's interested in trying a life of sin and begins using the guy for sexual purposes. Now the novelty and excitement has worn off and the relationship is just a bore ("Now we're stuck with the tube/A sink full of dishes and some aqua LUBE"). | |

| To anyone and everyone who took this opportunity to treat us all to a thrillinglong-winded story about how this song reminds you so much of you and your boyfriend/girlfriend... Nobody cares! :D HAHAHAHA! Oh, that felt fucking GRREAT. Sorry, I don't mean to be a hater, but I mean really, none of that belong here. Save that shit for your Myspace or Livejournal. Okay, with that said... I love this song. And though I've never read the Great Gatsby (considering reading it now), this is definitely about a long-term relationsihp gone sour. The chick in question here sounds like a sheltered rich girl who probably giggles at things like politics and thinks she's "doing her part" to save the rainforest by turning off the lights when she leaves the house. Then one day her innocence flutters away and she discovers the "life of sin" (drugs, sex, all that good stuff) and instantly wants to become part of it. She identifies him (the songwriter) as someone who is a little more wild rebellious than she and her sheltered friends, and she's attracted to that. So they have sex. A lot. And they get close. And then she gets bored of him when she realizes there's more to life than drugs and sex. So then she gets depressed, because the stuff that she had lived for for the past year doesn't fulfill her anymore. And then she discovers Myspace. Yes, that's right. And she decides that the only people who "really" understand her are her other depressed Myspace friends ("Convinced you've found your place / With the pierced queer teens in cyberspace"). And now he's like "wtf? You used to be cool, we had sex. But now you're not, and we don't. ... wtf?" And that's more or less the premise of the song. Okay, so maybe that's not EXACTLY it. I took a lot of interpretive liberties there, extrapolating beyond the actual lyrics of the song. But hey, it's all good, right? That's what this song means "to me." :D | |
