It's simple...it relates much like myself. The idea of the song is that the guy is delaying things in his life and basically saying "maybe" or "oh I might." It's where one talks the talk but fails to walk the walk. Something I tend to wind up doing but nonetheless it fits. Basically it's a back and forth arguement between the lead vocalist and anyone who's backing up. They are playing the one person vs a few people in this motivational arguement.

actually i can relate to this song, i can never commit to one girl, and 'maybe' is usually my reply to most things that i should commit to. TxBxS + togatora nailed it right on the head of the nail

i cant believe no one has posted on this! this song rocks. but anyway..i have no idea what it means! the best part is "i'd ride a horse and i'd teach a course on how i got to be a starcrossed pimp!"

Chaosfluro makes a good point. For me though, this song is really more about how someone can be timid and unsure of what to do, especially concerning women. I think the line about the "starcrossed pimp" really means that there a ton of girls that like him, but he doesn't know what to do about it. Maybe someday he'll get it right. Pretty much me in a nutshell.

This song is about a guy who cannot commit to a relationship eventhough he knows that it is good for him. I especially like the line "If I could bottle my hopes in a store bought scent. They'd be nutmeg peach and they'd pay the rent."

This song has a fricken awesome chorus! It gets me every time! I love listening to this song cause it's so catchy and the lyrics are pretty clever, like most of the stuff Stephen Jenkins writes.

i think this might be another way of saying that there's hope for a maybe. The author of this song knows he's hurt someone before, but still wants them to trust him/her. I feel like it's a small song perspective-wise... like maybe the author was hinted at by the object of his desire. this song seems to be like excitment for what could happen.. "Tonight, well maybe What you need I hope it finds you Oh I might, I might be, well maybe" I think the "what you need" is what the author thinks is him. "Oh I might" is obviously the author saying that it might be him. I could be totally off, but it's still my favorite 3eb song ever. I know we can only look at lyrics here, but the instrumental is just so amazing.. everything about it. it def gets me really excited before stuff...like performing and shows.

yeh i kinda agree with every one, i think in the first verse hes with this girl he likes but isnt ready to settle down and have that mundane life of doing laundry and feeling stuck in the mere, second verse explains his real dreams of becoming a star and hes torn between the two. perhaps the 'no you'll never say goodnight' is saying that he can't end this relationship because hes still torn and hes just leading her on and letting her down

I also think this song is about a guy who's want to be with this girl but is afraid to commit. "And I let you down and I said I'm sorry/But the light, it falls on my castle walls" He's built a wall around himself and feels threatened or scared that this girl has this effect on him. I think they have had a relationship in the past and when they'd sleep together he refused to spend the night "No you never say goodnight," and he's having trouble making up his mind to commit fully to this girl or continue to cop out. He's secure in saying maybe forever, never having to actually decide: "an ode to maybe"

i think togatora hit it right on the money. "If I could bottle my hopes in a store bought scent They'd be nutmeg peach and they'd pay the rent " thats the best line for me and it sums up the song for me

it's about a guy who is afraid to commit to anything because he's afraid he's going to fail. he's living a sort of wild life, and just doesn't think he'll ever be the kind of guy she needs.

I think, well, it's an ode to maybe--in a good way. Think about it...its like sitting in class, and thinking to yourself, 'well maybe i can go over to that girl and start talking to her.' It's just an ode to that possibilty. Further into the song, he's actually in that relationship it seems, and he still is making decisions, and he enjoys it. i really like the song, but have never really stopped and listened to the lyrics, so this is what i first make of it.
