Thousand Foot Krutch Biography

Band Picture

Thousand Foot Krutch is a Canadian Christian rock band composed of Trevor McNevan (vocals), Steve Augustine (drums), Joel Bruyere (bass) and Jamie Aplin (guitar). Trevor and Steve are also in FM Static.

Singer, songwriter, and band founder of Thousand Foot Krutch (also known as TFK), Trevor started the band while still in high school. He started the band in Peterborough Ontario, a city northeast of Toronto. Joel (pronounced "Joe-ell") Bruyere, was McNevan's childhood friend who had moved away earlier, then years later came back just in time. Drummer Steve Augustine is from nearby Hamilton. They now consider the Toronto area home, when not touring. The name of the band, as they explain, refers to God-in times of need, God is there to support you, regardless of the size of your problems-in effect, your "crutch."

The band's first release, That's What People Do, was released independently in 1998 and is out of print (though 5 songs from it are available on the 2004 rerelease of Set it Off, which was originally released independently nationwide in 2001. The sound of the album was distinct in its heavily hip-hop influenced rap nu-metal, and moderately popular releases on christian radio (including Puppet and Supafly), which gained widespread popularity almost entirely through self-promotion and word of mouth, gained the band a great deal of notoriety on the Christian rock scene. Finally, in 2003, they signed with Seattle-based Tooth & Nail Records after long consideration and released their critically-acclaimed second full-length CD, Phenomenon. A departure from the rap-heavy sound of Set it Off, Phenomenon had a solid modern rock sound that received almost universal praise, and spawned 4 popular radio singles. The CD sold over 100,000 units in under a year, making it one of the best-selling albums in Tooth & Nail's history. They continued this success with the 2004 rerelease of Set it Off through Tooth & Nail, allowing for a larger print run and adding 6 songs, including one all-new song, Everyone Like Me.
