"lift the veil, it's not medicine and my heart fails, time and time again" I could be wrong, but I really took this to mean a drug addiction (as well as other self injurious behaviors) and telling him to 'lift the veil' and that this isn't medicine to make someone get better, it's a drug that kills. This seems to match the rest of the song too, talking about using drugs as a distraction to free someone from pain and to 'be at sin'

maybe somone dear to dustin has a medical problem in which medication is often used, maybe he dosent believe, or sometime feels that this isent nessisarily the best solution, that drugs legal drugs often become answers to to many problems "to be at peace would be at sin" to not be on something to make you better would be worng, we must alwayse be finding something wrong, "and surly un-american" it is the american way to fix everything with medication, anti depresents anyone? medication isent love perhaps it breaks his heart that the "vail" that is called medicine is used time and time again.

SUMMARY: this song is about two problems in modern medicine: doing too much, (putting our faith in technology rather than our creator) and euthanasia, which is a copout, which is giving up when our technology can't save us.

Iknow that someone said Thrice doesn't do drugs but that doesn't mean the song isn't abou it. In my point of veiw, they're talking about the misuse of it. 'Begging for a razor's kiss'. People use pain to releive other pains. They're saying that people are using drugs and things to make them feel better. 'Lift the veil, it's not medicine' is referring to how people think it cures their problems but it only makes more. Thats what I get from it.

i belive this song is a metophor about what society induces into our lives and how it overcomes our so called fredoms. rejecting these views would be un-american. this song lets me know that me know that i'm not standing in my corner by myself.

I think its about doing more than you have to. like doing unnessicary things such as doing drugs to be happy, "a severed head as sedative" such as cutting of your head because it hurts, even thought you know its going to kill you. "like using an ax to pull a sliver from your skin" is another example of this... well thats what i think anyway

I've asked Dustin (the guy who wrote this song...) about the meaning behind this and he said that he doesn't like to talk too much about the meanings cos he likes them to be open to interpretation, but he did say "It's nothing to do with drugs, it concerns truth", take from that what you want, but just so you all know that it's not about drugs, Thrice don't do drugs.

I think this song is about making people look at their guitars and saying to themselves "I wish I could play Blood Clots & Black Holes by Thrice"
