a phoenix is a mythical that rose from the ashes of its own destruction to greater glory. this song is about such a recreation of yourself from your own destruction. In the wake of your destruction, you make urself into something greater, everyday tearing down the walls which held you back from becoming perfect, and not to hold yourself back from greatness and with every day living a life and creating a self more perfect

I feel this song can directly relate to the one of the cycles of life. Destruction Breeds Creation can sum it up fairly nicely.

i like how he uses the metaphor of the pheonix in this song. in case u didnt know, the pheonix isw a LEGENDARY (not extinct) bird, who every few hundred years(or somethin, im a little rusty on my lengends) would burst into flames and out of the "ashes and the embers" of the last bird, a new one would be born... so when he sings this: No regrets, just rebirth move forward, and ignite. Incandescent Reinvention a new renaissance A NEW FIRE EACH DAY hes talking about how every day you have a new chance at life, and you should live everyday to the fullest, like it was the last. just like a pheonix would... lol thats just my opinion, songs have a different meaning for everyone ;)

Yeah... Why does everybody relate Thrice songs to God? Everytime I read the Thrice comments, someone thinks that it's about God. They all do really well of relating the songs to God too. Anyway... I have another question... No offense... But why do all bible thumpers relate EVERYTHING to God? Sorry about the bible thumpers thing.... I didn't know what else to call them. Yeah.... But Thrice is such a rad band and all they're music is very well put together and intellegent.... They're a hoot... =)

I think this song is about Christianity "like a phoenix ignition" a phoenix is reborn, and you are begning rebirth "like a creamatorium" death, basically which i think means to die and be reborn in Christ or to be broken and rebuilt "like a swelling vollition from the berrel of a gun" a vollition means an impotant decision, and it is a important desision to become Christian "from the ashes and the embers, like a rocket i'll ascend" you come out of death "embers" and u ascend to live like Christ "No regrets, just rebirth" after you've been reborn in Chist you dont regret it

why does everyone relate thrice songs to god? maybe its just me but im sure every song doesnt have a hidden message about christ. who am i to tell you what to get out of a song though? at least you use your imagination and are able to take from the song what you believe. i think all these songs are so great and we all love them so much because we can each interperet them differently and take the song how ever the hell we want to, even though this leads to a bunch of heated discussions and hot headed teenagers arguing over whether a song is about suicide or christs rebirth. ah well ive rambled for long enough.

I'm guessing the thing about the Holocaust is probably right, it would make sense in the context of the song, but - punk - was right too, a phoenix is a legendary bird, most often connected with flames and rebirth. So this song does relate to the Holocaust, but it's also a metaphor for surviving and going against all odds.

The song refers to the imperfect nature of man. Like the phoenix, man constantly destroys himself, but never fails to rise out of the ashes to begin anew. Even though perfection will never be ours to know (at least in this life...), we should strive to achieve that state in order to fully live. The speaker infers that underneath all the taint and built-up stain, there lies in us the ability to renew ourselves.

In my lit class we've been reading about the Holocaust for about 2 weeks. This morning as I was getting ready and listening to my Thrice CD, the song kinda reminded be of the book I'd just finished, Night by Elie Wiesel. It recounts this man's experience in concentration camps. This song reminds me of the many references throughout the book about the crematory, the fires, the shootings, and the threat of he and his father rising from the chimneys with the others. And also of his hope of getting out soon and how they were "one step closer all the time" to liberation. It may not be what the song was intended but for some reason it reminded me of that.
