| this song is about how we've thrown away our faith and lost in this modern world where we find no meaning and simply try to explain what we know (reference to Nietzche) and how every once in a while we get a glimpse that there is something more to life and we convince ourselves its only a lie | |

| im 15, Christian, dont listen to new found glory and Johnny GT, i feel sorry for you and how your life will end up. and also, religious fag is a little bit of an oxymoron, dont ya think? one more thing, if someone listens to new found glory doesnt mean they cant like thrice too. i like thrice and zao at the same time, i dont think theyre is anything wrong with that. music is music, not a restraint on someones taste in music. | |

| I think that this song is more about glorifying that which shouldn't be glorified and holding up that which was not meant to be held up, and how the most sacred of things become nothing more than an attraction that leaves the people feeling exploited to the extent that they question everything, whether it be faith, or just life. I myself am inclined to think it is more about faith than anything because of the Neitzsche reference. And on that note, I think that anyone who wants to contest that Thrice's lyrics have any reference to faith and God is looking at the world with a closed mind. The fact that they may not openly say the words in their lyrics signifies nothing, it is simply a more poetic and eloquent way of expressing ideas. Now I'm not saying that all their songs have something to do with faith, that would be stupid, what I'm saying is that the ones that look like they are, even remotely, probably are, and to rule out that idea is simply ignorance and fear to admit that there are different ideas from your own. A song is meant to mean something to the writer and the people who hear it, for them to make up their own opinions so that it is special to them in the way they see fit. So people, instead of saying always that just because someone says they think the song is about God and faith they're stupid or wrong, or swearing like an idiot, you try to look at it as that person does to see maybe what they see. Thank You, I'll be here all night. | |

| This song seems like it's talking about people and how they only care about the now.. I think it is completly true we are breathing in the fumes of our own machines pollution is ridiculous and the general population doesn't care abou it they just want to see what preety and they don't even realize they are destroying it and themselves at the same time. absolutly obsurd | |

| There have been some really interesting interpretations of this song. I think that Dustin is saying people take meaningful things for granted…the tourist reference is an analogy for people who “take pictures” and other cultural artefacts of things such as “cathedrals”…the church (and life in general) when these people are disconnected from the truth…they’re missing the point; they could be engaged and involved in these things and actually make an effort to understand them. The song fits in with the theme of the album about so many people believing what they’re fed without question and/or denying truth because they’re scared of it (i.e. ignorance is bliss)…illustrated in the last line of the song “but its only a lie. Yes its only a lie…isn’t it?” Personally I’m not religious but like fixxpanel said, I acknowledge that Dustin probably wrote this song with regard to christianity. However, I think this song can be interpreted and used for non-believers too, for example…to me this song can be about how so many people are ignorant and obsessed with money and materialism rather than humanity. | |
