	About a year ago, I was wearing a Pedro the Lion shirt and Dustin came up and told me he thought the shirt was awesome and we talked briefly about Pedro's inspiring lyrics and brilliant music.

	Dammit people, the falshing lights and sound are the ambulance, its the siren and lights of the ambulance. Metaphor, he is using a tragic near death tail as a metaphor for dying inside, or feeling dead becasue you've let down the ones who love you. I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with the music industry or with him questioning the validity of being a singer of a band "i'm sick of always talking when there's no change i'm sick of empty words, let's lead and not follow" -It's about the world being a crappy place because people are fuck-ups, and he's making the desicion to own up to his shortcomings, in the hopes that others will follow. I know its all open to interpretation, but I'm almost positive that the potential of dying is a metaphorical one, I don't think hes sad because no one would miss him if he died On a side note, I'm an EMT and I think its awesome that this song gives credit to people in that line of work because it is often a thankless job

	okay. this song is easy. it's about an accident (obviously) that causes the lead singer of thrice to "rethink" his station in life. he's questioning whether what he does for a living is really that important. he is calling the ETM dude the artist, because what he does is meaningful. he is questioning whether if being a lead singer of a band is meaningful or not. "i know that this can be more than just flashing lights and sound" he's referring to a concert here, saying that he hopes it can mean something more to someone then just flashing lights and sound. he's hoping he has the same impact on the audience as the EMT driver (or whoever) did on him. he thinks too many bands pretend to want to "move" and change people's lives but don't really care. "i know that there's a difference between sleight of hand, and giving everything you have there's a line drawn in the sand, i'm working up the will to cross it"

	I cant believe no one has said anything about this song, its my favorite song off this CD. the lyrics tell one hell of a story and the breakdowns are amazing. ------------------------------------------------------ i'm left here with the question of just what have i to show except the promises i never kept? i lie here shaking on this bed, under the weight of my regrets i hope that i will never let you down ----------------------------------------------------------- Wow.

	I picked up a copy of Burn Collector after Thrice released this album and I must say I was blown away. Al Burian is a great writer, he has a great style that fits in perfectly with the way I think and that’s why I believe I connect with this song and that book so well, plus the book is hilarious. Anyway, Dustin took the last few pages of that book and made a song out of them which turned out to be an amazing work in itself. If you read the book after hearing the song it sends chills up your spine (not to be too cliché). However, when you sit at night and listen to the song alone is brings out a scary self revelation. You Begin to think: "What if I was to die tonight?" "Would I have any regrets?" and most importantly: "Would anyone miss me?" After you listen to the song again and read that part of the book you think: "What can I do to change my life so that if I did die tonight people would like they lost a treasure?" and you begin to weigh all the different things that meant something to you, and wonder what kind of person you have become. A materialist? A superficial individual? Would others actually be happy because you were gone? If so, what can you do now to change the way they think about you? If you want your life to mean something instead of being just bland nothing-ness then now it the time to do something about it. Take a stand! Don't say you are going to, get up and do it! “Rhetoric can't raise the dead I'm sick of always talking when there's no change I'm sick of empty words, let's lead and not follow” Do something to change your life. Do you really want to work at McDonalds your whole life or do you want to get out there and make a difference. Open the eyes of close-minded fools. Fight for what you believe in, don't be a push over. Anyway, that is what the song means to me, what does it mean to you?
