| beautiful song. but i can't really get the hang of what the song means.. and their new album is a bit different from the past ones, in my opinion. the new is a bit calmer, or mellow.. | |

| I adore Dustin's writing ability. To me this song is about being able to see the end coming, whether it's the end of your life, or maybe a part of your life coming to a close; but either to way its definitely a foreboding theme as others have said. Or It could also just be about the captain of a ship realizing hes about to sail into a storm that will kill him and his entire crew, but I like to think theres another layer to it about life in general. | |

| This song is amazing! I heard them play it live at Taste of Chaos. Everything went quiet and there were red lights and people crowd surfing on an ocean of people. i just thought of it that way from the song being about an ocean. hm to me taking a christian perspective on the song I guess the ocean represents maybe sadness or sin and how you sometimes feel numb kind of like your underwater and drowning. "And soon the sea shall give up her dead" People that are "dead" in sin? "she could take your life with one good kiss" kiss representing very strong temptation that feels good and looks good but in the end is just a "caricature of intimacy" and doesn't really satisfy you in the end. This ocean pulls you under and you need those "red sky" moments to pull you out. The feeling when you reach the surface and feel alive again. | |

| I've fallen in love with this song..it's so amazing and beautiful..to me it seems to be about him dying at see, then coming back to live again at the end. "And soon the sea shall give up her dead We'll raise an empire from the bottom of the sea" Fantastic. | |

| Dustin wrote it 2 years ago, and had an image in his head of looking into the water from a ship. Then developed it into this song..which is awesome. | |

| I found this semi-old interivew with Dustin backstage after KROQ-FM's Almost Acoustic Christmas concert back in December: "Overall, I think 'Red Sky' is dealing with the issues that [people] suffer, but in the end things are redeemed and there's a resolution," Kensrue said. "It's got this image of a storm that comes and in the end this unexplained supernatural change [happens] and everything kind of comes right through these dark times. It's about hope in general." | |

| yeah i beleive the ocean/water represents life in this song. everything else in the song pretty much just is significant to what has happened in his life or is going to happen im not sure. i think the ship could symbolise the vessel that each person surrounds themself in with that being each to his own. it could be a christian theme with satan being the wind....i duno?? im going to agree with beckman_jake with it also being about the coming of Christ and with a new empire being raised. in that case the ocean might either have to symbolise the new earth or heaven. ive been trying to work out this song for a while and am still quite stumped. but i think it is a very criptic song and very personal to dustin or whoever the writer may be. the christian approach for me was mainly interpreted because alot of the songs on vheissu had a biblical and christian theme. now if u dont believe that, that's ok. because i still think that each song can be interpreted anyway the listener can take it. as long as it meaningful to you...thats all that matters. lyrics aside...this song is one of the most beautiful and amazing songs i have ever heard. the ending is absolutely brilliant as the hitherto feels very solemn and restrictive feel, but the end feels like a release...it gives me chills every time. anyway i think ive babbled. thanks for reading if u have. | |

| yeah, i see the foreboding theme... i could see interpreting it as forshadowing of Christs second coming and the apocolypse... prior to the Thousand Year Reighn (we'll raise an empire)... in saying the sea shall give up her dead, so the Bibles tells us the Earth will give up her dead for judgement... maybe an interpretation of an impending death? a feared reasoning with the inevitable? it's hard to say... i see and appreciate much christian symbolism and themes in thrice... email me if you like: beckman_jake@hotmail.com | |

| I think personally that this song is dedicated to anyone lost at sea (We'll raise an empire from the bottom of the sea). Also -- check out AOL Sessions for the newly released version of Red Sky. | |

| HoldFastHope has a good point...its highly possible that the song was inspired by that...Dustin is realllllly into C.S. Lewis' works so you could be dead on...i can't remember the book or author but The Artist In the Ambulance was inspired by a book in the same way you're saying. | |

| Hmmm, i'm not sure of the full meaning of all these lyrics, but it's kind of obvious, some of the lines, anyway. There's a quote, "red sky at night, sailor's delight. red sky in morning, sailors warning." usually it was believed that if the sky was red in the morning it was a sure sign that there would be a squall or terrible storm soon. So, when they say that seeing the red sky in the morning is essentially a mark that they'll probably be in a storm and their ship will sink. it's a sign of foreboding, the red sky. As for the song in general, it's tough to say. that's up to thrice. | |

| Here is what Dustin wrote about this in the Vheissu S.E. booklet: "I remember writing the lyrics to this line before anything, at least two years ago. I just had an image in my head of looking over the side of a ship at the water passing by. The rest of it kind of grew from there I guess. | |
