| Trying to apply what I learned in high school. . . 1)High school is two words 2)A lot of things in this song are typical archetypes. The red sky can occur at sunset or sunrise. Sunset represents death and ending while sunrise represents rebirth. As said before if its morning, the red sky would also signify dead. Water is often a symbol for babtism and rebirth. I'm sure there are others, but just off of this, death and rebirth are strongly represented here, tied into the sea giving up her dead and raising an empire from it. Can't say I really have the best idea on what this song means, but there tends to be a trend of personal reformation throughout this album. Perhaps essentially letting our old ways die off and restarting from what we once thought was lost. Who knows. Not me. | |

| I love Thrice, and this new cd is just something else. THe lyrics mesh so well with the music, and the lyrics are so much more than other "emo", or "punk" bands. Dustin also said Vheissu was made with a different sound to try and shake their "emo" title. I love the lyrics, though I have the hardest time putting a meaning with them. You can't really label them with one meaning, Dustin's lyrics and use of words is just so intelectual. | |

| I really like the personification in this song with the wind and the sea. Also I have this theory that this song may be based on (or at least influenced by) "The Voyage of the Dawntreader" which is a book from the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. In the story some people sail out farther that anyone has sailed before and the crew of the ship becomes paranoid about what will happen to them in the uncharted waters. The whole song could be from the point of view of one of the sailors on board the Dawntreader and how he is worried about all of the bad omens that he is seeing. This song is about what that sailor is feeling. | |

| Parts of this remind me of The Bible Look and see the sky turn red -The moon is supposed to turn blood red at the end of time- Like blood it covers over me -I dunno- And soon the sea shall give up her dead -it says these exact words in The Bible- We'll raise an empire from the bottom of the sea -Satan and his empire come from under the ground and rain for 7 years- Other than that I have no idea. | |
