this song is about the difference between the high times and life and the low times and how quickly one can change to the other and was inspired by his dieng freind who used to say how life is just a hallway

the very first time i heard this song, before i ever heard geoffs explination of it, the music and the sound of geoff's voice (specifically "without a second opinion... dream thats turning off") really gave me the impression that he was lost in a sort of gauntlett or hallway being battered, perhaps with tortured thoughts. more than any song i've ever heard, the music really conveys the emotion of this song. this is some of the most intelegent music i have ever heard.

'without a second opinion' could be a reference to turning off a life supprt machine, in order for passive euthanasia to happen two doctors must agree on it. this would fit with the repition of 'turning off' and references to a critically ill friend 'we are coming to the capital' i agree with vtmatt that this is most likely to do with government, but could the capitol be a metaphor for the dying person maybe?
