I think this song is about doing a really fucked up thing that you regret, and having overwhelming feelings of guilt. I am the guilty. "I am the Killer." But you can't change the letters when the ink dries.

I think this song is about a loss of identity. He can't find himself because he has killed off who he once was. He feels lost among all these people. Without knowing who he is, everyone is the same. He can't see anything when he wakes up on the sidewalk because his perception has changed. He can't blame anyone else for what has happened to himself. He has killed who he was and he cannot change it. All he feels is this raw emotion. He can't place the emotion and he can't escape it.

it's interesting how people manage to turn the meaning of every thursday song into the ending of a relationship. seriously people, there are other things in the world. i didn't see that angle at all...i just saw this as a song about the loss of identity, as he says in the lyrics. to me, it's a powerful representation of someone's thought process when they lose their sense of self. i was really struck by the idea of everyone seeming the same but any of us being able to be the "enemy" (killer), maybe without even knowing that we are...

the paper is also another metaphore for his lost relationship. He talks about how you can't change the past so you try and hide it through drinking. THis song almost gives me the impression that his drinking is the reason for the breakup hence the name "i am the killer' its like he killed the relationshipo by drinking and now he has ended up where he began, alone and distraught.

I find it weird that noone says INSOMNIA. Jesus. And Responsibility- wow. One fucking word. It doesnt explain the whole song. We can say it's about Confusion and it'd make sense.

To me this song is about a relationship which has ended. "Tuesday wakes up silent" its silent implying hes alone.. "And then it cuts out like miswired shortwave radio It's over" - it hits him, the relationships over. His dream of how they were cuts out with the realisation of reality. "And in a short time You're never the same again" - it was only a short time ago he was happy and content.. and now he'll never be the same again. Hes lost his identity now ("Loss of identity") now they arent together. In "life runs through this trade" the trade is love.. he hides his face from the world in the coming days of after its over. He "wake(s) up every morning from the same dream" of them being together. But then he kills it, when he wakes up and realises hes killed his dream because it was his fault the relationship ended (But you can't change the letters when the ink dries) he "woke up on the sidewalk" the morning after the breakup, hes been drinking to cope with that happened.. "and everything just changed", as he realised its over. "Everything is falling apart: Crumpled paper Crushed tin cans Broken bottles Paper scraps" The state of his apartment, hes too drained hopeless to do anything, things are just lying around everywhere - he sees no point in cleaning them up "We all look the same We all look the same But I am the killer" - Final closure, admitting he killed the relationship, its over cause of him. Killer is used to signify his guilt. Everyone looks the same, but really hes a killer that shouldnt be allowed out he feels. Anyway, thats what the song means to me :) tell me if you think its bollocks

Saw this as the music in a Trigun music video. I was amazed when I read the lyrics (I couldn't really understand them in the beginning), but there is such raw emotion in the song it's almost overpowering. I really like it. You can find the music video (if you've seen Trigun, it goes well with the song) at www.cleancutstudios.org

I think these lyrics are quite a bit more profound than just a break-up. His lyrics are so somber, so full of despair, talking so much about death and killing, that I find it hard to believe it has to do with breaking up. I personally think he is expressing what is philosophically known as "existential angst." I think he is expressing total disillusionment, feeling like life is meaningless and hopeless. Sleep is an escape, where one can feel like there is meaning, joy. But then you wake up, and the pointlessness of life kills those fake dreams ("you can't change the letters when the ink dries": you can't escape this reality). Also, when he says "the distance is streamlined between decision and defense," I think he means every pursuit now just seems like a form of escapism, a defense against this feeling of nihilism, not really a decision any more. Alienation is expressed by his loss of identity, nothing to trust in, so he hides his face, but still cannot escape. He has killed his previous blissfull ignorance and hope in life. Anyhow, that's my interpretation. It's just so dark, he must be considering some deep stuff.

i think this song is about the same person in 'understanding'. the person he was supposed to meet with died in route. 'if i only didn't...' he is the killer. it haunts him. he doesnt want to believe it. its one thing to lose someone, its another to feel responsible for the loss. no, its not his fault. but he cant change it. and he'll never forget it.
