i love this song, one of my favorites. i am 99% sure this song is about an actual stalking in tyler, texas. and although it would make sense that possum kingdom would be about rape ive heard theories that its about vampires...just read the lyrics with that in mind and it makes sense. you all should go check out the burden brothers ive seen them live twice and going for a third time may 14th. pretty badass stuff. oh one more thing. i am pretty sure in the stanza: We can drive to anyplace, Day or night, across the state. And in the morning, Into Mexico, We will wake up. its supposed to be: We can drive to anyplace, Day and night, to cross this state. And in the morning, Into Mexico, We will wake up. correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure thats it.

I don't understand why there aren't that many posts, even though I just started to listen to Toadies a few months ago, I love this band and I'm hooked, and I'm so pissed they broke up before I could see them in concert... anyway, about this song, "Tyler" is i'm pretty sure about a prowler in Tyler, Texas, and the reason it sounds so much like "Where is my mind?" is most likely b/c Todd Lewis was inspired by it, in the Toadies cover of it, Todd says that he owes a lot to this pretty good Pixies song... i don't know if this is creepy or not, but whenever i hear the lines "i stumble in the hallway, outside her bedroom door, i hear her call out to me, i hear the fear in her voice", i get the biggest chills, b/c i love those lines, if u forget everything else written in the song, it almost sounds as if it's about two people about to make love for the first time, sounds gay, but it always gets me feeling lonely... alright, enough talk, sorry for the long post, just that i'm so obsessed with the Toadies, too bad they're done... another note, if anyone else is crazed like me, just to let you know, Todd Lewis is now currently in another band called Burden Brothers, may be something to look out for...

Tyler is about a dudes lifelong obsesion with a chick. He follows wanting her but can never have her. He finally decides he will have her and i think he is gonna rape her. This is the best song ever written, the beauty, and mystery make it amazing.

Ok, Fight Club came out in 1999. This album preceeds the date, by 5 years. That's right 5 years. "Ruberneck" came out in 1994. So throw that Toadies-Pixies thing out the window. Unless, The Pixies loved the song and wanted to imitate it. There is a Tyler, Texas. I don't think this song is about Rape though. Maybe i just don't want it to be about it, oh well. It could just be that. To me this song is about getting the balls to ask out a crush. But then I read last few lines, and makes me think "Surprise Sex!"

this is obviously not just a stalking it's someone he knew an ex girlfriend, it's a true story about a stalker in Tyler, Texas, but he added and made up stuff to go along with the song....I believe these guys (and the girl) are so talented. LOVE THIS BAND...I thought one more CD is going to be released before they break up...?or did they break up already?

that's true, they do sound very much alike, but i don't see how or why this song could have been any type of motivation for that movie... i love this song, nonetheless
