| i think at the end of the song it says, “getting bored of getting bored” ...but i might be wrong. gaping lotus, is from the karma-sutra, meaning, well, something sexual, (use your imaginations as to what, gapes and looks like a flower, hmm). Maynard’s brilliant ramblings about how drugs conquer the boredom of life and inhabitation, and how u lose friends and piss people off when using them..."i hAd a friend oNcE"...............drugs rule....equally so doing gaping lotuses | |

| joshtack, Lotuses are flowers that well, make you feel very peaceful and happy, and of course they're extremely addicting. Lotuses are very prevalent in mythology and are used to symbolize any kind of drug. And well, this is an experience with drugs. | |

| actually, I think they are and I'm sure a lot of people would agree with me on this one, b/c anyone who has used drugs knows that even if you don't see it or don't want them too, drugs have the ability to control you. I don't feel like going into an explanation of this, cause some people just don't get it, but Tool is pretty much against control so they would have to be anti-drug. | |

| Joshthack you must be fucking joking if you think tool is against drug use. Here is a quote for you from an Interview with Maynard. "Interviewer: so how do you guys keep the jams going for so long? Maynard: Acid lots of acid." I'd say that pretty much settles that issue. | |

| The debate about this perticular band and whether or not they use drugs is real simple. Listen to how insightful and spiritual these lyrics are. These songs come from within, without any false pretenses that would be caused by drugs. I think they dabble a bit from time to time with what I have been told are entirely "organic" sbstances(mushrooms, weed, peyote, etc.), but I believe that first and foremost they are ARTISTS (not rockstars, not gods) and that is why they leave their actions ambiguous and open to interpretation. I mean think about it, isn't that alot cooler than saying "I gets high like, everyday?" Of course it is, that's what makes them the best. They are so humble that most people wouldn't recognize them on the street if the passed them. They are just people who let their art speak for itself, and it works. Besides, we all know that the bands main motto is "think for yourself". That's why I think that If Tool would actually visit this site and read some of these interperatations (which are usually pretty f-ing good, by the way), I think they would be pretty impressed at what some of their fans say, with the exception of the MJK is God kind of people. They're clueless. KILL THE EGO! | |

| I'm not so sure if the last part is right, that's what it sounds like to me. I love this song, which is hidden after Opiate. I'm surprised no one put it up before, because I think that it's one of the most important songs that Tool has done. Important in respects as to what Tool is about. It's mainly about the stupid things that people can do while under the influence of drugs. I love the part where he starts saying "Satan," it's just so in your face saying this is what drugs are, which I totally agree with. The last part, "getting bored," I think is Maynards reason as to why some people use drugs. People are getting bored with life because of what it has become; totally devoid of meaning for generation-X (I hate to be called that), sometimes. I think the "more" that he is referring to is the 3rd eye that can come from drug use. It allows us to see that there is more to life than money, drugs, cars, clothes, sex, or anything tangible. I think this song is pretty straight forward, especially for Tool, but if anyone thinks there is a different meaning then please let me know. | |

| This song is a humorous little extra added to the end of Opiate, to leave no doubt that this band uses mind expanding drugs. Members of the band have been quoted saying they use LSD and DMT, The Eggs Of Satan is a Hash brownie recipe, the text in Aenima is describing Ketamine, a dissociate anaesthetic, also a hallucinogen. Timothy Leary is also mentioned in the text, the king of LSD who formed the first psychedelic religion called the League for Spiritual Development, abbreviated, LSD. If anyone watches any of Tools videos, they are all psychedelic, and are meant to be watched by people under the influence of psychedelics. Third Eye is a term psychedelic users can understand as these drugs pry open your third eye and allow you to see reality and life in a different perspective. Anyone refuting that Tool does not use psychedelic drugs has never used psychedelic drugs because if you had there would be no doubt your mind that Tool uses and creates music for people who are on hallucinogens. Listen to the beginning of Third Eye. Bill Hicks talks about drugs and LSD to Pink Floyd-inspired heartbeats in the background. Pink Floyd is one of the most famous acid-rock bands. Listen to Lateralus and Aenima on LSD, it will be amazingly brilliant. Danney Carey is one of the most innovative influential percussionists out there. Keep it up Tool! | |

| no, no, no, I mean that they are against using too many drugs b/c it seriously mind fucks you. Just look at the aging hippies, I recently met a few when I went camping with my uncles and their friends. The thing that sticks out most in my mind is this guy Johnny saying, "All I got are awesome memories." In otherwords no future, all because of the drugs. This is gonna sound kinda wierd but this is a dream I had. I was with this girl and her son and we were walking toward this elevator. We went in and went higher and higher, to like the 100th floor or something. We got out and it was a room with some people sitting in chairs talking. When we got back on the elevator and went down I noticed that her son was missing. I think this dream meant that when you do drugs while you have children, you forget about them. So the time to stop using drugs is when you become a parent. | |

| I just saw them live for the first time on the 21st. They are so fucking great live. They played Sober, Stinkfist, Eulogy, 46 & 2, Aenima, The Grudge, Schism, Parabol/a, Disposition, Reflection, Triad, and finished with Lateralus. The only thing that was kind of annoying was how almost everyone was chanting the lyrics to pretty much every song. Is it like that at all Tool concerts, or just that one? | |

| Hahah, people think this is a deep song? Jesus fuck, this is the kind of story you sit around and tell your friends while drinking. "Yeah, I knew this dude, once, he fucking got wasted, and pissed all over my goddamned apartment, man." Tool are not goddamned genius fucking psychological philosophers. They're great, but they're still people. Who gives a fuck if they do drugs or not? | |
