Not to be a smartass burntfire, but just how sure is "pretty sure?" Have you read the linner notes or something? I haven't, and that's why I'm on this site, but I'M 'pretty sure' its not Olympus--not because it dosen't make sense, just that it makes more sense poetically to be empress. Plus, its one line I always tought was pretty understandable.

Simonlee, lots and lots of people listen to lyrics. Many other people also don't give a hoot about lyrics either, but that's another discussion. People do like music because of the lyrics, not just "lame chavs." Anyways someone still needs to explain the love and slavery connections in this song and what it has to do with Africa. Reading it again some months later, it seems to me that a man is waiting on a lover in this song, who will arrive late at night, which I only gather from the first line. But the rest of the song seems to fit into that context. He's trying to contain his feelings of jealousy perhaps and trying to decide whether to leave or stand by his lover. But he decides to stand by his lover. "Hurry boy it's waiting there for you" - what you could have if not bound down by being in a committed relationship - or "Hurry boy she's waiting there for you" - to do new things with his lover. Still not sure what Africa has to do with this, or slavery for that matter.

don't jump at people screaming racism....the music to this is beautiful. But I think the racism thing came up because it sounds like it's about slavery....they were coming to take him away from her and he says he won't go. Even still it is a song about love and liking it doesn't make u racist at all unless u like it simply for the reason that it's about slavery, which would just be stupid.

What a love song. I love the way Toto does this song. I really want to be in Africa right now. This song reminds me of jail in a way. By that I mean I was routinely ass-fucked by an African American. Leroy always fucked me hard and pulled my hair; just like passing the rains down in Africa.

I am against the claim that it is about slavery. That's just like saying a song about china is all about child slave labour. Can't there be a song of appreciation about another country other than ours?? Anyways, I absolutely love this song. I don't care what it's about, or whether it has any meaning. A truly beautiful song in it's own right. Although, I always thought they sang: "I missed the rains down in Africa". I also thought the lyrics sounded more like "..Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like a leopress above the Serangetti". Y'know, Like a leopress rising up to roam her territory among the serangetti. Oh well. I'll stick with my catchy lyrics. =D
