E===========================|=====================
You got a fast car, I want a ticket to anywhere
Maybe we make a deal,Maybe together we can get somewhere
Anyplace is better, Starting from zero got nothing to lose
Maybe we'll make something, But me myself I got nothing to prove
You got a fast car, And I got a plan to get us out of here
I been working at the convenience store, Managed to save just a little bit of money
We won't have to drive too far, Just 'cross the border and into the city
You and I can both get jobs, And finally see what it means to be living
You see my old man's got a problem, He live with the bottle that's the way it is
He says his body's too old for working, I say his body's too young to look like his
My mama went off and left him, She wanted more from life than he could give
I said somebody's got to take care of him, So I quit school and that's what I did
You got a fast car, But is it fast enough so we can fly away
We gotta make a decision, We leave tonight or live and die this way
[D]I remember we were [A]driving driving in your car
[F#m]The speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
[Esus]City lights lay out before us
[D]And your arm felt nice wrapped[F#m]'round my shoulder
[E]And I [D]had a feeling that [F#m]I belonged
[E]And I [D]had feeling I [E]could be someone, be someone, be someone
You got a fast car, And we go cruising to entertain ourselves
You still ain't got a job, And I work in a market as a checkout girl
I know things will get better, You'll find work and I'll get promoted
We'll move out of the shelter, Buy a big house and live in the suburbs
You got a fast car, And I got a job that pays all our bills
You stay out drinking late at the bar, See more of your friends than you do of your kids
I'd always hoped for better, Thought maybe together you and me would find it
I got no plans I ain't going nowhere, So take your fast car and keep on driving
You got a fast car, But is it fast enough so you can fly away
You gotta make a decision, You leave tonight or live and die this way

| This tune focuses on free will, hope and unfortunately, the complexities of living in America. She reminisces about hoping to be someone and then her husband's betrayal. I feel she is also responsible since she had 'children'. Where was her self discipline? It is not an easy task to bring in new lives in the 20'th Century. Her life as well as many American's lives is about codependent/conditional relationships. Where is her unconditional love for others and for herself in all of her recollections? She does have dreams, and this is good. Maybe someday, cars will be able to fly! Perhaps she can reach a higher consciousness some day, unless she feels there is no way out. Sergio | |

| This song means so much to me. I have memories with this song that are unreplaceable. This song is about a girl dreaming to happy with the man she loves. She's got the devotion for it, but he doesn't. She tried to make it work, but in the end she found it wasn't worth it and he was just making her go further down. So she makes him leave. This song is one of the best songs I've ever heard!! | |

| This song is really good for just relaxing too. It is thought provoking if you let it. Think about how complicated the world is and then think about how simple this song defines happiness as. | |

| This song is full of metaphors and hidden meanings. Don't run away from your problems because the grass may not be greener on the other side. Did you notice in the end she decides she 'ain't goin no where'? she decides instead to get rid of her problem. It's also about how love can make you blind. | |

| xiu xiu cover is somewhat different than her version, more suicidal ("...so i quit life" instead of "quit school") | |

| This song is so powerful and every time I hear it I have to stop and listen to it. If you notice, it first says "Is it fast enough so WE can fly away?" Then at the end it says "Is it fast so YOU can fly away?" Thus saying, in the end, she wants him to leave her. | |
