Hi, Did you get these lyrics directly from the CD? Cause there are a few lines that I disagree with. "With the lie I belong" --> "Will I ever belong" "My independence only has a taste" --> "My independence only hesitates" Let me know. th3gh05t

Okay, I have to disagree with the "finding himself" theory. I mean not completely... To me, this song is about being free from absolute plans. Like not having your path carved out already. Making choices as you go. Read the first ten lines: "My independence is calling my name A doubtful voice divides my faith My independence only hesitates An unsure choice I can't embrace You're gonna have to carve me, Carve me from stone Right to the bone or I'll end up alone Playing the role Of someone in control" He wants to leave the position of being in control of everything. He wants to be free, and he feels that if he is in control of everything then life is boring. hes an ex-OCD of sorts. The first lines of the ten before mentioned talk about how his "independence is calling [his] name" but its hesitating to make a choice. He needs to be completely remade so he'll get away from "playing the role > of someone in control". More lines that show this point are: Will the dice ever roll When will I ever know Will the plot ever twist Or will I still resist I've been playing the part of a lost realist To me (and the New Heritage Dictionary, lmao) a realist is "a [person] who believes that universals are real and exist independently of anyone thinking of them " and being a lost realist would be someone that expects that something wont happen unless it's planned out; or, a little less literally, it wont go well at all. He's saying will i ever take a chance ("roll the dice") and will anything crazy, or different ("plot ever twist"). "Why do I rush to slow down Why do I rush to slow down everything Why do I rush to slow down" This is saying that he wants to know why he always thinks things through, too much. He's always fast to slow down and think things through instead of (CLICHE WARNING!) flying by the seat of his pants and just going for it. on another note, this is not just a great song, or a great CD. this is a gread BAND. Trapt is good in every way. They have music, and a great voice from Chris. They sound great on CD's (or MP3s for us less-than-legit people), they have great and powerfull lyrics, and they are fantastic live. i saw them in Seattle a while ago and that was the best concert ive been to. -sorry for my rant, im a little long winded.listen to it again with my veiw and see if you see it. Songmeanings.net is a fabulous site!

I think this songs about life and the quest to understand. Its about leaving a big time in your life and trying to figure out why it had to end. He says "My independence is turning the page, tommorow comes we start to fade." He's saying that being an indpendent person is the quickest way to see the story unfold and understand it. He means that people have to part once in a while. Then he says "I only keep what i give away" he's saying that the only thing he ever holds on to is memories of the past, and so the only reality that he has is in his memories but he doesnt understand the future and so he cant understand his memories. Realism is knowing what makes sense, its almost as if in this song he's battling with himself, trying to decide is reality the past or is it the future or is it none of the above. He says will the dice ever roll, its saying will he ever see his chances become outcomes, will he be able to see the effect of what he hopes. I think we all feel this way, we dont know the future and so we try to take chances and make it better by figuring out what the past meant, understanding that the transition is systematic according the general everday opinion of the world, to the world life is only everday occurences, but being a realist is looking at reality and seeing it for more than it is, thats reason enough to go on. Trapt rocks!!! best CD from them!!!

Correction to what i just said: i meant to say a realist os someone that beieves that life isnt planned out beforhand, as in prior destiny. and he plans everything out. he is a lost realist because he cant find his way to being a realist and flying by the seat of his pants. -Sorry, i proof-read this one!

I totally am addicted to this song. In my opinion, the best song on the CD. I believe it is about a man, looking for his own place in the world, with people around him telling him he can't do this or that...he's looking for his true self. He goes through things that lead him towards what he is looking for, but along the way, he runs into obstacles that he must overcome. Also, I believe that the lines "You're going to have to carve me from stone, Right to the bone or I'll end up alone" means that he needs to find a person out there who'll help him find that true self, because he can't do it alone... That's what I get out of it.

to me, the song says he's getting way ahead of himself, and always does.. just to find that he goes right back to where he started again. and no matter how many times he says he's gonna change that, he doesnt.

This song I listened to the most so far on the CD. I think the song in general is just about a person who trying to find the truth, but he is realizing that the truth is just the immediate end to a situation, where a lie would be a long path. The 'rush to slow down', he wants to know the truth, but the truth causes him to end up slowing down in the end. Personally though the song reminds me of being home. I have been very far from home for months and I miss everything thats going on. I find out about things that go on at home, but it is not everything that I could know, and I wish I was there still.

This song is about finding your place in life. wondering if this is reality or not.wondering if the dice will ever roll in life who will know. its like being stuck in someone elses realitythat was created for you and not your own.
