| I'll admit that I didn't quite understand the song until I heard Fran explain. He said it's about that someone that everybody knows...that someone who just sits on their arse all day playing video games. You know they have so much potential, but they are throwing their life away. | |

| Travis' lyrics are often called simple, as it were a fault. But Driftwood is deceptively simple. It is literally a song about a piece of wood that is consantly drifting from river to ocean. For me it creates a wonderful image of the vast beauty of nature. But without even a mention of human struggles or emotions, it seems apparent that this is also about a person who is drawn to roam instead of finding a place where they are comfortable in their own skin. Yes both interpratations are obvious, but creating such a metaphorical song is not easy. This is a beautiful song of simple genius. | |

| Is your life without purpose or meaning? Mine was until I discovered Jesus. I felt buffetted around by life, not knowing where I was going, except to my grave. Until I saw the light and believed and now I know that I am going to Heaven! So, you really don't think that one day you will die and go to Hell? Good luck buddy. Jesus is the only way to Heaven. | |

| I can really relate to this song, since I've always considered myself a slacker, feel like I don't exert myself to the fullest and take advantage of all the possibilities and opportunities offered to me. I think a lot of people can relate this song to a phase in their life when they just felt like they weren't getting anywhere and weren't in control of their lives. Fran's imagery helps make the song all the more meaningful and powerful. | |

| violetzebras is exactly right. i always pictured this song to be about someone who fran felt was just wasting away, becoming "driftwood". i think he also had a little bit of fun with the song by adding nonsensical parts ["pillars turn to butter, butterflying low"]. a great song to take it easy to. FAVORITE PART: [depends on mood] | |

| I like to listen to the song from a relationship view rather thn potential,it makes me think of a lack of commitment and finally facing upto the fact that who ever you are with is never going to settle with you they are 'driftwood',and in a way it's not a problem with you but with them, they are the ones losing out as painful as it is to say seeing as my boyfriend said it reminded him of me. And no the new album is not so good. | |
