Travis - Good Day To Die

From "Good Feeling", Written by Fran Healy & co.

No capo (*gasp*).

Intro: Various noise, then D7 into...

First verse:

G D Em B

where is your mother, where is your father,

G D Em B

two little children, locked in a cupboard.

G D Em B

Into the wide world, high on the high wire,

G D Em D7 C, D7

What would you give to fly away, away, away, away, awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay?

Same chord progression for the second verse:

Girl with the flower, boy with the hammer,
Lost in a forest, on another planet.
Find me the exit, find me the way home,
Find all the love they took away, away, away, away, away.

Chorus (coming off of D7):

Em D

Cos your head, is a brick wall,

C D

And your heart, is a football

Em D

And your eyes, broken windows,

C D C

when you cry, it's a good day to die.

Solo (well-tabbed on other GDTD tabs), the chords are similar to the verse,
with a bit of a change:

By measure:

G, D, Em, B

G, D, Em, Em

G, D, Em, B

G, D, Em, Em

Then, D7 back into the chorus chords.
Once through the chorus normally, but instead of playing the last C transcribed above
go right back into the Em to begin the next time through the chorus. Then...

Em D

Cos your head, is a brick wall,

C D

And your heart, is a football

Em D

And your eyes (?), it's a good day...

Am, Em, Cadd9

Today...

Am, Em, Cadd9

Today...

Am, Em, Cadd9

Today.......today......today.....

The outro seems to be messing back and forth with a C and a Cadd9.
Enjoy! Hope this works better than the others.

I think this song is about a person (most likely a woman...although could be a man, I'm not sure) who's been abused emotionally, physically and worse for their entire life and are now doing the same thing themselves and feel terrible for it. For example... 'Where is your mother, where is your father?' (abusive parents who abandoned them eventually?) 'Two little children, locked in the cupboard' (the person's own children, who are now being abused but hidden? Or this could a be a reference to their siblings...) 'Into the wide world, high on the high wire' (the person tried to make a normal life for themselves, but ended up getting even worse. 'High wire' could also be a reference to 'high risk' prostitution...I'm not sure) 'What would you give to fly away...' (the person would give anything to get out, duh) 'Girl with the flower, boy with the hammer Lost in a forest, on another planet' (bad drug trip used to try and numb the pain, probably) 'Find me the exit, find me the way home Find all the love they took away...' (same as last line of first verse) 'Cause your head is a brick wall and your heart is a football And your eyes open windows when you cry It's a good day to die' (no matter what the person does, their situation keep getting worse, and all they want to do in the end is die. Sooo sad... :,,() cyaz

I love this song...especially the bit where he goes crazy at the end. Good Feeling is such an excellent album all around.

This is my favourite song on Good Feeling as well. It's so evident to me how much each Travis album is different from the last. An example of this is how Good Feeling is upbeat while The Man Who is much more mellow. My point is, yes the albums are all different but they're all the same too in a way that Travis fans love them all. We can all find things we love no matter which album the song comes from and what mood it is. Travis is great!

I have no idea what this song is about. I don't care. It's my favorite song on Good Feeling. I love the anger in his voice. He's just screaming this song, and it rocks.
