	PinkPrincess6916 - i think it's up to everyone to interpret the message in their own way, even the band had some idea when they wrote the lyrics it can still have another meaning to me...

	1. notice the first line of what Matt Heafy said "Ascendancy, to me, means the.." he has left that right open to interpretation... 2. I believe there is a religious element to this song, the writer seems to relate them selfs with the same troubles of what Jesus faced. I also found it interesting that no one has posted about Jesus's not letting his blood cover Juda's sin (Christian reference to accepting grace) this is a major part in the song.

	I'm pretty sure Matt Heafy is not religious. This is not a religious song. On the contrary, based on his explanation of the song "The Deceived" (check it out on this site), I would say Heafy considers religion to be one of those ashes we must ascend above with open eyes. Religion certainly is repressive and holds us back, which some of us realize as we shed our innocent view of the world we have as children.

	I agree with The clairvoyant. It seems to be about rising above betrayal, and being stabbed in the back. The writers mentioning Judas pretty much secures this assertion. Some good imagery with the pheonix, and the viel of deception. All in all, a good song. 2nd only to Pull Harder. Noah

	i think the lyrics 'behold your fellow man, through centuaries of control, adhering to the decrees of a manucatured god' from another song on the ablum kinda suggests that trivium dont believe in a higher power... but the song is still great
