First song, and pretty much the only song, that I self-taught myself to play on the piano. Always held a special meaning to me to just help me move on from any troubles. Things happen...you deal with it...but you move on. ...then what happens? I am sitting here, 20 years later, in my living room, and I hear my 8 year old daughter playing the main piano piece. It sounds more beautiful now than it ever has. Life really does move along...enjoy it!

This song is so simplistic yet hauntigly beautiful. I think that the song is about after a life of warmness, someone has passed away, and their world has become cold - "the trees are stripped bare" - in this case Bono's mother dying

October is my favorite U2 album as of late, and this song is a predominant reason.

To me this about how in October everything dies. The leaves fall and flowers wilt and the animals hide away. It's death, and it's a beautiful death. And just like the year is born in the spring and dies in the fall, life has beginning and an end. The second part is about how time goes on and things happen, but God is outside of it all, where there is no beginning and no end.

a true U2 fan must know this song. To me, the most sad, music of u2....yet beautiful Bono and Larry, both had lost their mothers...The Edge wanted to leave the band, just like his brother did (yes The Edge's brother was once a U2 member, [actually, before they were called u2]); Adam was feeling distant from the others.... And the trees are stripped bare Of all they wear What do I care? people have changed, times are changing...still, Bono is trapped in is cold world...

Simple yet elegant. The song if you all are still wondering is off of the album October, so it wasn't actually any kind of added bonus, it was the title track for an album. Other than that U2aholic in my opinion got it right. Also one of my favorite U2 songs.

this song is so beautiful and intense. I was unsure if it was aout God or his mother. Listening to the tone of it i feel it is probably about his mother as he sounds almost tearful.

I love it when a cd's done and the music stops, but for one reason or another you haven't pushed the pay butten again yet and after a long silence a bonus track begins! (that was a long sentence, sorry fot that) Makes me happy al the time! Still after the fist time that silence seems te become longer and longer and I don't alway wait for the bonus track anymore!

Yes, the song was an added bonus for fans. It's a simple song with a powerful meaning. Basically, seasons change, things happen and God goes on.

one of the best U2 songs!! really touching. I also thought it was about his mother and the passing of time.

"October" is perfection. Simple but most certainly not without a powerful punch. I think of it as a 'moving on' kind of song. Seasons change, people die, kingdoms rise and fall, but eventually we all have to move on. Sometimes we don't do it intentionally but time just moves on and we're just passengers. Also, I don't know how many people have made this connection but I felt it worth a mention. October is the month of Samhain, or Halloween, which in Ireland and Scotland is celebrated as "Summer's End". Traditionally Samhain was celebrated by the Celts as a way of honoring the dead and opening a "new beginning" in life's cycle. "October" certainly has the celtic feel to it as it speaks of moving on and whispers of new beginnings after the loss of dear things.
